Am I missing something here? I searched for this topic but I found no info... sorry if this is old news, but I was caught unaware of this situation today.
I was just at Epps today to get some surplus 7.62x54r, and they don't have any left. Same goes for 7.62x39.
The guy behind the counter (I forget his name, younger type) told me that the government has banned the import of corrosive surplus ammo due to the mercury content of the primers. So Epps stock of surplus has run dry. He told me that they are searching for other types of surplus but that it could take time to get it in, if they succeed at all.
So instead of buying 5 boxes of surplus 7.62x54r, I bought one box of Bell (which is the same as Igman but $5 more per box).
I heard before New Years from a friend of mine that the staff at Valley Guns in Petawawa told him that ammo prices would be going up 20% in the new year due to new laws.... I wonder if this is related....
Is anyone here 'in the loop', so to speak? I'd like to know more about this.
