recent import via Questar

Hi all,

I recently imported 3 long branch's from Joe Salter's down south and I have to say that my experience dealing with Questar has been Stellar!!!!!
Very professional, great communication, and very low stress. Because of Questar I will happily and eagerly purchase from the EXCITED STATES again. Why buy Canadian when you can buy better product with more availability from down south? I will not waste my time buying guns in a market that is so scarce, I will buy where the market is saturated. From the financial side of things I could resell these guns and come out ahead even considering import fees.
A big thanks to Mark at Questar....

Feel free to contact me,
Sean

What about getting 18.5 criterion barrels for M1A's or M14S from the US..Have you dealt with companies like: Krieger?

To import three guns at a time, what would the charge be?

There are a variety of factors involved... a simple answer is not possible. If you have something specific in mind then contact me using regular e-mail and give me the details... I'll see what I can work out for you.

We haven't dealt with them because it's done as a 3rd party purchase... the customer buys the item from the US seller and we act as the importer/exporter (in the case of a firearm as the FFL Transfer Dealer as well).

Questar's import service A-1

I just received my first gun, bought in the U.S. and imported by Questar!:dancingbanana:
I can assure you all, at first I was a bit nervous sending $1500 over the border...but Mark did a great job and took care of absolutely everything in a professional manner (experienced too)!;)
It took less than 6 weeks from the day I made my payment to the day I received the gun, including the transfer and the waiting period :)rolleyes: ) for the shipping permit.
Usually I prefer to buy locally to keep the gun business healthy in Canada, but for those rare guns or Colts...Questar IS the way to go!

If anyone has any doubts or questions about Questar's import service they may contact me.
I am already shopping for 2 other guns...with Questar:runaway:

Ok Corral1881, could you tell us where you bought from (if you bought it from a store)?

I've often wanted to do what you did, but didn't want to go through the hoops of trying to explain to the seller what I was planning to do.

If there was a shop in the US that was large and familiar with "the deal" it'd make me far more likely to try it out as well :)

~Cheers

Hello G37,

Basically you can buy your gun anywhere, at dealers or auctions. You can look at gunbroker.com and gunsamerica.com that will give you a good idea of the market.
Two things that you have to keep in mind; first make sure to check with Mark if the gun you want to buy is legal in Canada before you BUY. Then most dealers will agree to sell to you has long as you have a FFL dealer (in the US) where they will ship the gun.
So once you have chosen a gun and Mark told you it's OK to import, you pay it, send a copy of your bill to Mark. From there Mark will send a copy of his US partner's FFL (license) to your salesman, then your gun will be shipped to Mark's partner in Michigan awaiting for the import documents. Once the gun clears duty/customs it is shipped to Ontario where Mark immediately starts the transfer to your name...after you paid the duty tax,6% and shipping.

Note! I was the first and only one to import and register in Canada a Colt Custom 01991Z. Ottawa had to create a FRT# just for me so the gun could be registered in the system:dancingbanana:

Be careful when you buy in auctions...especially on used guns, sometimes vendors are not totally honest and once the gun is in Canada:( !:runaway: !

So I think you have enough info to start, if later you want names of US dealers that are reknown for their amazing prices let me know.

Last thing; you might be offered by US dealers, an export service to Canada! Don't be tempted by the cheaper price, they do only half of the work that Questar does, you would have to come up yourself with some documents.
Mark takes charge of your gun as soon that you send him a copy of your bill and until the postman rings your doorbell, also it keeps the gun business alive in Canada. That is why before buying US, I always give a chance to Canadian dealers.

If you hurry you might get a Christmas gift form USA!;)

Cheers

Questar are the import experts

I have justed concluded using the services of Questar to bring a pistol up from the States.I cannot say enough about Mark and Questar when it comes to choosing a dealer for this purpose. These gents make it easy and straight forward there is no doubt they have the all the necessary resources and contacts to do this correctly. The fee they charge based against what they do to earn is a true bargain.Highly recommend Questar to any other CGN members looking to import firearms.

If you are a student visiting on a student VISA then you don't do a Permanent Importation... you use the FORM 6 NIA to bring the guns with you for the duration of your stay and then bring them back to Canada when you return home... similiar to what a snow bird might do when travelling to Florida for the Winter.

Even a "Resident Alien" has to show they have been residing in the US for at least 90 days prior to being allowed to purchase and take delivery of a firearm in the US. At that point you could do a Permanent Importation but it only makes sense if you intend to leave or dispose of the firearms in the US... you would not be able to take them back to Canada at that point without getting Export Permits.

I quoted you 18 to 20 week delivery on new BarSto custom barrel orders (not 28 weeks). As I explained in the e-mail you sent me (you really don't need to duplicate everything... just contact me directly by e-mail), we don't handle Jarvis barrels, but we can do the import/export for you as a 3rd Party Purchase... explained in detail on our website...
