I like these red rifles in this order what are your thoughts:
svt-40
Sks
Mosin Nagant
Vz58
And don't want this new
Type 81
Ok Ben - are you the same guy that suggested if the sks was a song, what would it be? I'm having weird flash backs now.

Own all but the mosin. Got the svt first, just because there was a scare that you might not be able to find them much longer (unfounded so far)Of all the red rifles I think it's the most desirable. Then the CZ. Would have got it first, its what made me want my PAL in the first place, but it was the most expensive. Got the sks because of the canam combo. I'd like to get a mosin but I think I'll try and get an Enfield first. An AR is the next on the list tho.
The Mosin looks really lame when you first see it, long skinny wood and skinny barrel and only 5 rounds. But once you handle one without your friends with their AR's teasing you they are quite a fun rifle. It bucks cause of the light weight front end and the powerful round for the rifle. The fun part is being able to control all the negative aspects of the rifle and actually hitting something. Ammo is cheap so you don't get pissed off. But once you figure it out it is lots of fun. I cheated added a rubber cushion on the butt and a muzzle brake, timmney trigger, scope. Now I can hit targets. When I bought my first Mosin I quickly stuck it in the backseat and drove home having guys decked out in camo giving me strange looks for buying a rifle under $150, while they stroke their browning hunting rifles. I love the old rifles.

Very good, Bendeco! I like your thinking.
