Looking to buy a 17hmr just loooking for opinions/experiences leaning towards either a tiger American or a savage a17 looking to keep it under $500 sticker price. Let me know what your experinces/opinions are will be mostly taget shooting and some varmint hunting

I have two CZs, an American and a Canadian, both 455s. Both wickedly accurate. Used only for gopher defense.

Tough to keep under $500 for even a used CZ. From what I gather, Savage and Marlin can be deadly accurate. Might have to try one - or both. :p

I have a Savage 93R17 and honestly couldn't be happier with it, picked it up on here in the EE hardly used for a great price.

As big a CZ fan as I am...my 17HMR is a Marlin 917 heavy barrel with an after market (Rifle Basix) trigger. Laser beam, and positively deadly on gophers. Ask me how I know. :)

I have a Ruger American and really like the way it works and satisfied with the accuracy as well.
Only went through about 100 rounds so far and not a miss-feed or fail to extract or eject.

You can pick up a Marlin XT-17R from Elwood Epps new for 287.00. That model comes with iron sights. You would still have money from your 500.00 for a decent scope for it.

Keep your eyes peeled on the EE for a used CZ455. I own both a Savage MKII and a CZ455. For the 200$ price difference I would go with the CZ every day. I hate to say this but I think "Nutnfancy" said something intelligent in his CZ review: it's an "heirloom" quality firearm. The Savage is just as good in function but not anywhere near as refined.

CZ 455. You won't be disappointed. Oozes quality and the accuracy aint half bad.😉

Picked a used varmint up in 22LR on here for a great deal. Just be patient.

a few years ago I picked up a 452 American 22lr that had trigger work and bedded for $475 all I had to do was drive 30 min to get it. That was the deal of the year. That gun is extremely accurate it has shot a ton of gophers.

Also look out for a Zastava Z5 .17 HMR, they are all steel and walnut, no plastic parts and built like tanks and the one I had was very accurate.

I always forget about those. I had 2 mp22's (pretty much same as the z5) and they were easily as accurate as my 452's. They also feel like a centerfire rifle in size.

Well I picked up a Mossberg 817 ss bull barrel for $269,after a little polishing of the trigger it is a nice light little shooter.Pretty happy with it

CZ 455 or a 452..
They are great value for the money.
Might not be as nice s Annie, but there will be lots of money left over for glass and ammo.
Will provide great accuracy for hunting with Hornady Ammo.
What else is there.
Oh yeah, the biggest challenge are the scope rings as some are 13mm or 7/8'' Burris Zee Rings will do fine for 98% of the applications.

I was going to say! Zastava! My buddy has one its a tac driver! Fit and finish close to a CZ and priced like a savage!

If not that, then a savage. Another buddy has one, it puts 5 rounds in the same hole at 50.

CZ 452...
