I am glad to see someone else post that they have a Cornbinder (IHC). I only have one Garand, and it's a cornbinder. '54 so not WW2, which is what I would like to add someday, whatever manufacturer I can get my hands on.
Not sure WHY except that these rifles are very well made, shoot extremely well, are extremely accurate, but I guess the biggest draw for me personally is that it was the first mass produced semi-auto used by any major army. Yes, yes, I know there were some before the Garand, I'm talking about one of the biggest armies in the world, entering a world war, equipped with a CLEARLY superior rifle. Just think: Semi-auto, 8 shot capacity vs. bolt action, 5 shot capacity (K98). Which one would you choose? Hmm, that's a tough one...
The Garand was (is) a "rifleman's rifle".
Of all the rifles I own and have owned in the past, the Garand rates right up there (if not at THE top) as the most enjoyable rifle to shoot. And yeah, I owned a Norc M14 knockoff too, had it about 5 years before I sold it. Fun to shoot, but quality wasn't the same and just knowing it was a COPY detracted any and all 'history' that may have been behind it.
This isn't a picture thread but what the heck...
