Gentlemen,
...Garand's which one do you favor the most. What draws you to that rifle. Is it a safe queen or your best shooter. Or is it something about it that you can't put your finger on.
Thanks again
Clancy

Probably the only reason I favour my '42 M1 the most is because it's the only one I've got. But I do want more, just like everyone else!

I had one given to me, but I had to give it back when they discharged me, So I bought one some years ago . You always have an affinity for the first big bore rifle you shot. I assume there are folks who like the M14 or the 16 for the same reason.

Only need one since I collect Enfields.:D

I have a '44 SA that has all the correct numbers and dates (except rear sight) I collected all the parts and assembled it with some technical help from this board. So I guess because I have what I have invested in it, time, money, effort etc it's my favourite. I had a Danish but it didn't do anything for me.

It is one of the must-haves on every collector's list. Simple as that.

Personally, I never met a gun I didn't like.
For the Garands though I am a Springfield Armory man.
I collected Springfield firearms for nearly 20 years and had the major variations from 1863 to 1957. The M-1 was always my fave...hell, it was designed by a canuck at Springfield Armory.
Cheers

I like my garand because it is a good shooter, it's not original but i like it. Maybe in the future ( when I have more money ) I will look for a period corect/matching garand.

Thats a tough question for me. I have an IHC that I love to shoot. I have 3 1942 SAs. One is an M1D which i have yet to even fire. One i built out of
NOS parts from the receiver up and will probably never be fired as long as I own it. and the final 42 is a well loved danish rebuild, again unfired by me. I had a Breda that was the best shooter ive ever had. Kinda miss it actually.
I guess the 42 SA that i built from scratch is my fave. I have alot of hours
of work into it as well as the fun of hunting down specific parts. At the rate I've been buying the damn things I'm sure another fave will pop up.

I am glad to see someone else post that they have a Cornbinder (IHC). I only have one Garand, and it's a cornbinder. '54 so not WW2, which is what I would like to add someday, whatever manufacturer I can get my hands on.

Not sure WHY except that these rifles are very well made, shoot extremely well, are extremely accurate, but I guess the biggest draw for me personally is that it was the first mass produced semi-auto used by any major army. Yes, yes, I know there were some before the Garand, I'm talking about one of the biggest armies in the world, entering a world war, equipped with a CLEARLY superior rifle. Just think: Semi-auto, 8 shot capacity vs. bolt action, 5 shot capacity (K98). Which one would you choose? Hmm, that's a tough one... :p

The Garand was (is) a "rifleman's rifle".

Of all the rifles I own and have owned in the past, the Garand rates right up there (if not at THE top) as the most enjoyable rifle to shoot. And yeah, I owned a Norc M14 knockoff too, had it about 5 years before I sold it. Fun to shoot, but quality wasn't the same and just knowing it was a COPY detracted any and all 'history' that may have been behind it.

This isn't a picture thread but what the heck...
