A lot of people didnt think any of the WSM calibers wouldnt be around in 10 years, and they still are, even though some are more popular then others.

So out of the .300 wsm 7mm wsm .325 wsm and .270 wsm which is the most popular, and why? Cause 3 of the 4 have long action siblings that are all outstanding and extremely popular.

I have a 7WSM which I believe to be the least popular but it sure shoot's like a hot damn(accurate).

What I do see the most of for WTB or WTS is definitely the 300WSM.You are either a .308 or .284 guy and it seems there are more of the first in comparison to the other, I'd say 7 to 1, I just have a thing for 7mm chamberings.

All of them have long action siblings.
8mm isn't exactly a new thing

I would assume 300WSM is the most popular, but I wouldn't really know.

300 would be number one for sure. From there I'd guess 270 next most popular with the 325 being close behind and for whatever reason agreed the 7 is the least by far for no good reason that I can think of.

For the life of me I can't understand why the .270WSM is more popular than the 7WSM, far greater choice of bullets in 7mm. Also can't understand why they haven't come out with a .35WSM but bothered with a .325WSM.

I agree, though i do have a 325 and it is nice, but I would like to see a 358 and a 338 in the WSM's. Im not sure why they would do a 277 and 284 but not a 358.

Because 270 wsm is faster than the 270 win....7mm wsm not as fast as a few .284 cal cartridges....

In my opinion and from what I've read, Winchester went with the 325 as their largest offering as they couldn't get the performance they wanted in the WSM case in a caliber bigger than 8mm. They couldn't match their own 338 WinMag ballistics in a 338 WSM case.

The 270WSM is popular because the only caliber that exceeds its performance in that class is the 270 Wby. The 7mm WSM doesn't bring anything different to the table from the very common and popular 7mm Rem Mag.

The 300 WSM is popular because 30 cal. is the most popular caliber size for all around use.

The 7mm WSM and 325 WSM will continue to have a very small following.

They never had to match or beat their long action counterparts, because they could do what the longs never could. Fit into a short action, which is the current trend for mountain type rifles.

Maybe they could design an even shorter case based on the WSM to put into an even shorter action. They could be called the WUSM (for Winchester Ultra Short Magnum) or something like that. You'd probably want to make them in smaller calibers though, to make them more comfortable to shoot. Perhaps in 6mm and .257"...
:)

The fact that loads in the 338 WSM fell almost 300 fps short of the 338 WinMag played a huge part in it not being developed. If the 300 WSM had followed the same line, it would've been a flop. 300 fps less than a 300 WM is close to the performance of the 308 Win, which is a short action.

The 325 wsm case capacity is only 2 grains shy of the .338 WM. The .300wsm is 21gr less than the .300 WM. They should have brought the 338 or the 35wsm to market and let the people decide. It would still have 30gr more capacity than the .338 Federal, and there are lots of them sold.

Lots of info out there on the 338 WSM.
The 338 Federal has been far from successful. Neither has the 338 RCM.

Unpopular enough for our local CT store to put all the 7wsm on sale for half price! So I picked it all up because 10 years ago I bought a 7wsm :)
