Individually Loading Internal Magazine?

Hello everyone,

Im new to the precision shooting stuff, and am considering picking up a 700 SPS varmint to start out in the next few months. So right now I am trying to get as much theory in as possible before rounds start going down range. Anyhow, ive been watching a few videos of people shooting the SPS varmint with the standard internal magazine (not box), and have noticed that they appear to load single shot through the chamber each time they shoot, instead of loading 4 rounds at once and cycling the bolt after each shot.

My question is (and sorry if this has been asked before, I didnt see it when I searched), why is this done and how effective is its positive aspects? Other than the weight changing slightly as each round is cycled and disposed of, I cant think of any reason why it would be detrimental to load all the shots initially. If it is the weight, does it really make a difference?

Thanks

the inernal mags tend not to be long enought to hold rounds that people load to be a certain distance off the lands of the rifling, 700s in perticular tend to have really long throats, so once some one loads their desired bullet to desired lenght it no longer fits into the mag. shooting factory ammo mag feeding is just fine and wont change accuracy and u wont notice the minute weight change

example the load to OAL, for a 308 is 2.810 in loading manuals (if i recall of the top of my head) , but for my self, i like to load my 175gn SMK .015" off the lands, my OAL ends up being more like 2.875" and no longer fits into the internal mag

I own this rifle, and I find if I am just target shooting, and waiting to cool between rounds that it a pain in the ass to feed them all down as opposed to single loading. Purely prefferential for me anyways...

P.s.
You will likey have decent results with this rifle and an endless platform to build off, so far a bedding job, muzzle brake and trigger tune with a harris bipod and load tuning have put me in the happy zones for grouping, good luck!!!

When the round pops up from being pushed forward by the bolt out of the mag, the bullet can get marred, dented, dinged as it hits the chamber wall which can affect accuracy. This is why I carefully hand feed each crafted round into the chamber.

I never liked the internal mags in the 700s. Kind of a pain to load and get to cycle properly. Get an AICS to go with you SPS-V and you'll up your accuracy and have detachable box mags.

Actually that was just what I was planning to do JR86, but I dont have too much to spend just yet so I am just planning on grabbing the platform along with a bushnell scope (probobly one of the 3500 elites or around there). When I have some more cash burning a hole in my pocket the AICS was one of the upgrades I was looking at chiefly since ive heard the varmint stock was not so good.

But I figure if I start out with just a stock build and a scope I can start learning the basics of precision shooting before I start throwing in more complicated accessories and stocks without getting the knowledge first. Being that the only mags ive ever used in my weapons have been 30 or 200 round ones from the military I was curious about the internal mags and why some people choose not to use them.
