hello everyone, i'm sure this or something similar was discussed before but, i was hoping you guys could suggest an inexpensive (read cheap) .223 bolt gun. im a starving student and i really shouldnt spend money on another gun but....you know how it is, i'm jonesing. and a .223 bolt rifle is something i've wanted for a while. anyway, thanks for your input, it would be much appreciated.

There is a norinco on the EE right now.He is asking a bit much for it,New they sold for $275(if I remember right). You could always negotiate.Or you could just buy new from marstar.Wont get any cheaper than that.

thank you for the replies, but i checked out marstar and they don't have any norinco bolt action rifles in .223. only 7.62x39. are those savage rifle and scope package deals available here in canada? if so does anyone know where from and at what price? i hear they are a good value.

1. Yes, Savage package rifles are sold by many retailers in Canada, including the bigger mail order operators such as S.I.R. and Wholesale Sports, (and probably Russells). I can't remember off the top of my head that there definitely are package rifles in .223, but I would be surprised if there aren't.) If those retailers don't normally keep them on hand, as long as Savage offers them I am sure they would be happy to order one for you, as would most gun shops.

2. The Stevens 200 is certainly available in .223 and amongst low priced bolt actions offered new, is probably the best value for money. Any shop that sells Savage probably has or can get Stevens rifles.

3. Look for used guns. They almost always sell for less than new and so long as they aren't worn out or abused, that's good value. Lots of them have nothing wrong with them, it's just they were bought by the kind of people who buy new toys because they can afford them and after trying them get bored or whatever, and sell them to buy something else. (Wonderful sort of people, I hope your studies lead you to become well off and you will be like that.)

looks like i found what i was looking for. i'm sold on the stevens after 10 minutes of reading up on it. now can someone tell me where i could score one of these bargains?

yeah, looks like i'll be phoning up SIR soon and hitting up the Cambodian Tire for an el cheapo bushnell scope. i'm hoping a CT bushnell scop wont fall apart from the mild .223 recoil.

$630 for a 1/2 MOA .223

Come on now, Stephane... your staff discount shouldn't factor in. :p

I'd say that a Stevens 200 is the best bang for minimum bucks... I've got my eye on one right now, but the missus put the kybosh on any new guns for a while. I'm squared up on the XR100, just bought a revolver and another rimfire... she said no more toys until we've gotten our new place closer to work. I guess I could make another rifle purchase on the sly, but that girl is pretty smart. I'd be better off picking up a shotgun and saying "No, honey, that's the same shotgun I got from Dennis, it just looks different now."

Can't go wrong with a Stevens 200 in .223. Only thing Pete is you need a trigger job ($35) & if you're gung-ho, you get the rig glass bedded.

I'm guessing for about 400$ total, you can get a 3/4MOA rifle. Not bad for the $$ if you ask me.

I just picked up a Brand new Tikka T3 Lite Syn/SS in .223 at the gunshow here, couldn't pass it up as the price was sooooo good.

Have yet to really test it, but if my sighting groups with cheap Winchester ammo are any indication, I'll be coming home from the range with a HUGE FRICKIN GRIN on my face everytime.

It has a nice crisp trigger at 3lbs (adjustable from 2-4 lbs which I have since adjusted to 2lbs)
