Inexpensive soft cases?

I recently bought my first AR and while I wait for it to arrive I have been looking at cases... I live in a small appartment and drive a small car so as much as I like the hard pelican type cases I think a soft case will be more practical for transport. My problem is I just can't imagine paying over $200 for a soft case. My question for you guys is where you buy your cases and if there are any deals to be had? I don't mind paying for quality but lets be honest this case will be used to carry the rifle from my safe to the car and from the car to the range so it doesn't really need to be able to withstand a thermonuclear event.

The law requires a restricted firearm to be : unloaded, rendered inoperable with a secure locking device and locked inside another case that is "difficult to break into" which case law has been shown to say is anything which requires a tool of some kind to break open. I am very familiar with storage and transportation laws.this may be my first AR but it is not my first restricted firearm. Your comfort level may vary but there is nothing illegal about a locked soft case and many of the so called hard cases are just as easy to break into if not more so in fact many of the plastic pistol cases sold and used for legal transport can almost be broken into with your bare hands.

I use a VISM soft case, I have seen them on Amazon for $75or less, fantastic case for the money, holds two AR's has three large storage pockets, molle strips and a large area that could carry two or more pistols if needed. I believe mine is the 42" case, and it's easy to secure with a lock thru the zippers

I have 2 VISM cases..one is the long drag bag and the other is the 42 inch double rifle. Have had them a couple years now and they hold up pretty good. I think the drag bag was 110 and the double was 75 both from Am Flahertys. They have pockets and plenty of molle webbing.

I originally bought this one from Cabela's, it's now $39.97, for my shot gun but it fits my AR-15 too when I take only one to the range. I can slide a combo lock through the zipper pulls. It is well made and padding is better than some of the other soft cases. The molle straps make it easy to add outter pouches.

The current CFSC/CRFSC student course book states on page 318, regarding the transportation of Restricted Firearms, that "A heavy-duty soft case (i.e., made of nylon) meets these requirements as long as you can lock it securely."

I guess they put it in the manual to trap all the new shooters, so that they can be charged with unsafe transportation of restricted firearms, and have their guns confiscated.

Regards.

I personally only use soft cases to transport.

One disclaimer, I've bared witness to one of those cheap NC STAR soft cases blow open at the zippers when a guy was carrying his rifle from car to firing line.

I personally use the 5.11 soft cases, ive stuffed 4 AR's, 1 extra upper and 2 pistols in it and the zippers and seams held just fine. Is that a practical way to trasonpirt that many guns? No not really, but I'm lazy and don't like making anymore trips than I have to.

I personally prefer to transport restricted rifles in a light weight, inexpensive hard case. I also have a Pelican 1720, but it is just too heavy and bulky. But, to answer the OP's question: I own a Voodoo Tactical 2 rifle case that is lockable, has proven to be very durable and is quite affordable.

I use the new Cadex ones $150-200 prove to "Value" in my opinion is the Best Buy out there. I've used pretty much everything. For $99 the condor ones are ok but plastic connectors that should be metal.

this is what i use. https://www.amazon.com/Uncle-Mike-Tactical-Rifle-Case/dp/B01M1GDKMX its cheap its fairly tough. has mag slots and a pouch for papers etc. I've had no issues with rcmp and the bag. ive been stopped twice going to the range (they like to check people coming in and out of the range) and have no problems. i just have a lock on the zipper and follow the rules they seemed fine with it. screw hard cases

I just use a kid sized hockey bag, for you are looking for cheap, I have mine because the kid out grew it.

Of the inexpensive nylon/cordura tactical style transport cases the Voodoo Tactical seem to offer decent quality versus cost. Vism, Uncle Mike's and UTG will also work. Whichever you choose, just make sure you can lock it. In combination with the appropriate trigger/cable lock, you're good to go just as long as tools are required to break into the bag.

Thanks for all the replies ... I found a case at cabelas on sale for Canada day and I think it will work fine. It's a bit short for my bolt action rifle (it fits but its really 1/2 " too long for the case) but it will fit an AR15 or any 2 of my other long guns no problem

I have a Condor 2 rifle lockable soft case that cost me $80.
It's been in use 5 years. Rough use about every weekend carrying my scoped XCR, 20 loaded pistol mags, a tool kit and cleaning kit, shooting in the bush.
I swear on my mothers good name, not a scratch, tear, stitch, zipper, failure of any kind.

I bought it at the airsoft store.
