Inexpensive soft cases?

I use a Safariland 3-Gun Case.

It's probably near the top end of what you might want to pay, but it carries everything, all the zippers are lockable, and has backpack straps. I once put two rifles, a shotgun, three pistols, and a couple hundred rounds of ammo into one. Would I recommend doing that? No. But it can do it. The only issues are there are no straps to hold the long guns into place like in some other cases, and D-rings are kind of flimsy, so don't use the single side strap to carry it if you're going to load 50+ lbs of stuff into it..

The law requires a restricted firearm to be : unloaded, rendered inoperable with a secure locking device and locked inside another case that is "difficult to break into" which case law has been shown to say is anything which requires a tool of some kind to break open. I am very familiar with storage and transportation laws.this may be my first AR but it is not my first restricted firearm. Your comfort level may vary but there is nothing illegal about a locked soft case and many of the so called hard cases are just as easy to break into if not more so in fact many of the plastic pistol cases sold and used for legal transport can almost be broken into with your bare hands.

That "Mush" guy's statement implies the reg is clearly written, which is clearly false.
But which "case law" are you referring to?

"Case law" was probably the wrong phrasing but its my understanding that the rcmp have defined "not easily broken into" as requiring a tool to break into. The RCMP opinion isn't law but it is a helpful guideline. It doesn't seem likely that anyone would be charged for transporting a restricted in a soft case. But typically if a law is vaguely written and criminal charges would result the law is interpreted in favor of the accused. In my eyes a soft case is just as hard to break into as one of the cheap rifle or pistol cases made of hard plastic. What it boils down to as far as I am concerned is you can either obey the law by taking reasonable steps to meet the criteria or you can spend endless time agonizing over how screwed you would be if some LEO didn't like some aspect of how you did it and never go to the range. I have never been stopped by police while transporting any firearm and I am confident that if I ever am it will be a polite conversation and I will be on my way shortly. I guess if the transport regs scare people that much they can just avoid restricted firearms or store them at the range. A pelican case would be nice but its not an option for some people ... In my case it would not easily fit in my car and I have nowhere to store the empty case when I'm not using it. A cheap hard case is more compact but like I said earlier to me the security is not any better than a soft case and it doesn't provide any extra storage for mags and cleaning tools etc I might need at the range so the soft case gets the nod from me ymmv

Its ok with me if people are not comfortable using a soft case to transport their guns ... Just like I am ok with people who refuse to use pistol mags in their rifles but unless they can point to the actual law that says so don't tell me your preference is the law. In cases like the transport regs I'm ok with betting on the restricted course handbook, the hundreds of gun stores selling soft cases for legal transport and the many thousands of gun owners doing it every day. At the end of the day if you want to avoid all risk of encounter/unpleasantness with our law enforcement and legal system just stay in bed the rest of your life ... But you still aren't "safe" . Life is a risky business the trick is just calculating the risk and making sure to enjoy life. ...ok I'm done lol

I also recommend voodoo tactical. I have a double rifle case that can also hold 2 pistols. I don't remember paying much over $100. Well worth the money

I personally prefer to transport restricted rifles in a light weight, inexpensive hard case. I also have a Pelican 1720, but it is just too heavy and bulky. But, to answer the OP's question: I own a Voodoo Tactical 2 rifle case that is lockable, has proven to be very durable and is quite affordable.

Either of you have a link? I see the 42" at a minimum of $175

You'll laugh, but my favorite cases I've got, I bought from TSC. They were $12 a pop, but I bought them during a sale for only $9! They're padded, hold one scoped rifle, have a lockable zipper, and have an extra strap that allows them to be carried over the shoulder. I bought ten lol. The straps let me carry about 8 rifles at a time into hunt camp. (Yes, I'm the guy that brings 8 rifles to hunt camp)

Anyway, probably not what your looking for, but a killer deal, and durable enough that they're still kicking 5 years in...
