Inheriting Prohibited Handguns...need help on possible barrel changes.

Hello McCoy Im assumming its the same procedure if we are sending it to the gun smith like EPPS in Ontario. Is it the same procedure for procuring components like barrels.

It is the procedure for restricted and prohibited handguns, no permit are required for barrels or parts.
Only the frame is the controled part.

Hello McCoy, it that the same for buying barrels for S&W from the US from brownels and numrich

This is different, to get a barrel from a US vendor, the exporter need to apply for an export permit, others may chime in to give you a more accurate info on this as i'm not an expert in import export, it is doable but need paperwork.

You may be able to find barrels for the Walther and the Browning, but the Smith & Wesson will be a costly job, especialy for the 28.

Instead of deactivating the Deringer why don't you sell it to someone that can get some use of it? Sorry about your loss and good luck getting your 12.7 or changing them to restricted status.

Still not finalised that Matty 308 ! There are a lot of things to consider. Personally need to keep on researching to find out what I can do with it. You right it would be terrible to do that to something. However, my sister might want it displayed as a non firearms. Its too bad I have not found a great local gunsmith. Im sure with the right metal and time it can be fashioned into something really nice.

Once deactivated under the new RCMP guidelines, both barrels will be welded shut, you won't be able to open it and the hammer wild be also welded, you won't be able to move any parts again, this nice little derringer will become an ugly door stopper.

If it is stamped Browning Montreal on it it is not eligible.
The OP has to prove it was made before 1946, and i don't think a record of those pistols exist prior to 1955

I would like to see pictures of both the Walther and Browning, this and the serial numbers, it's the only way to be sure.

I am quite sure you will not find a 1910 Browning stamped Montreal, PQ.

somebody on here may be able to help you out with the barrel changes. Contact Barry at Bits of Pieces about Barrel replacements. Murray Charlton Enterprises on Vancouver Island may be able to help with the Smiths. Unless the Beretta is pre 46 you will be s.o.l. on inheriting it under 12.7 even if you change to a longer barrel.

I just had Barry refit a s&w 3906 with a 107mm barrel and had it registered as a restricted. He did a great job at a reasonable price.

There are a lot of vg-excellent samples out there which go $150-200 for model 10 and the upper end of double that for model 28.
