Initial Review - Sterling Arms International (SAI) R9 Mk1, 9mm PCC

What Bartok said. I forgot about the extent of Sterling's input. So you could say the R9 and R18 MK3 and their Akdas versions are a fusion of Sterling Canada's thoughts of blending the AR-180 compact action with the HK gas system on the R18 MK3 and HK design cues on both the R9 and R18 MK3 with the might of the Turkish arms industry. Akdas like the designs so much they AR-15-ed / Americanized them so they could sell them in Europe, the U.S. and elsewhere as a budget alternative to the SIG Spear LT and SIG Rattler among others.

Correct!

I wonder , if the R9 remains un-murdered, how hard it would be to make a roller-delayed R9? The Spingfield Kuna isn't quite as smooth as an MP5, but it took the Stribolg's simplified roller delay design and made the takedown easier with less parts to loose. Could a similar action be added to a version of the R9?

Some more videos of the Mac IX Yankee cousin of the R9:

It looks like the bolt-hold open is present on the Mac IX magazines, so that provides another source of mags for the R9, but I imagine getting IRunGuns to pin them to ten rounds and with the tariffs would make this too onerous unless Canadian suppliers could not get further copies. It looks like the firing pin safety is also present on the second video, but with the rear-charging Mac IX I don't know if there's a spot to hook in the side charging handle for the R9; it likely the two are incompatible. The lower looks pretty much the same; I wonder if it would fit the R9? Hopefully triggers developed for the Mac IX would work in the R9, and vice-versa; if Triggertech officially mods their MPX trigger for the R9, it might work for the Mac IX too.

Would a M-lok foregrip with a magazine holder be useful or too easy to snag for the R9? Thinking of something like the built-in one on the Flux Raider. I see Picatinny Glock and AR Stanag ones out their, but none for the MP5/R9.

Anyone know how to remove the safety. I want to swap the trigger/springs. Got both of the screws off the safety indicator but having trouble removing it. Tried punching from both sides and nothing.

This is the stock I got. I was surprised at how heavily built it is. Solid aluminum. Fit nice n tight and just barely squeezes under the charge handle when folded.
