Inline Fabrication - Quick Change System

Anyone router their baseplate(s) into the table top?

My table top is 1.5" thick and the instructions say to router a pocket nearly 1/3 of the table top thickness, which seems a lot to me? I am wary about compromising the strength of the table.

Might be quicker to bolt the baseplate on top of the tabletop and cut 1/2" plywood to fit around it, then bond that to the table to end up with a 2" top.

I wouldn’t router into the bench, just get the shim pate and be done with it.

On another note, have been following this guy on YouTube for years he always cracks me up, did a video on your mount maybe can learn from his entertaining antics and challenges…

I was not so interested in the quick detachment as I was in the secure attachment. I went with the shim plate, and ordered one for underneath the bench as a backing plate

These are all old photos from 2 or 3 years ago when I lived in an apartment and moved provinces a few times for work, still have the mounts and presses but have way more space now, also have lots more reloading stuff in the reloading room in the basement (more room more crap, see how that works!)

Should probably clean up the benches and take some current photos but anyway these Inline Fabrication Systems have served me very well in both small spaces and larger ones, highly recommended!

Also have some more stuff on quick change plates like other tools, vices, ect they even custom drilled the holes in the plates by sending them a pdf template to work off of.

I was originally going to just use the shim plate but then I thought my new bench top would work great for routering the base plate in but now I am waffling. The instructions say you can just shim the base plate up with thick washers so I think I'll do that and then prob order the shim plate later. I think I need another wall mount anyway so will have to make another order regardless.

My friend, long time shooting and travel buddy Phil over at FastToys Shooting Sports in Winnipeg is an authorized dealer and caries their product line, some things he has to order but doesn’t hurt to inquire on price and availability, also a site sponsor here.

I thought on the mounting issue a bit and came up with an in-between solution that will save me a bit of money. :)

I'm gonna direct mount the plate to the table top and only router out the small space required for the tongue to fit under the plate. No elevating shim needed and no need to remove a ton of material from the table top. :)

Your long time friend at Fast Toys has almost no stock on any In-Line stuff. He doesn't answer e-mails, and has no listed phone number. I gave up on him and ordered direct. As I believe the OP did.

And when I ordered direct from Dan, he told me that he has a very hard time with Fast Toys getting them to replenish any In-Line stock.

No idea the specifics on that could be issues with importing or perhaps nothing sells here in Canada so not worth importing for 1 piece ect he has a presence here and can be reached by PM or sales@fasttoys.net

Merely a suggestion I know dozens of local guys here that went through him and were quite happy, sure beats dealing with cross border shipping holds and customs charges, but by all means order direct makes no difference to me!

I think the elevating plate is thin and washers would work the same way just not as clean, what you said makes sense but have not done it so not sure what unforeseen benefits the plate ads besides appearance and not having to commit to router the bench, let us know how it works out!

Sorry, no offense meant by my post. I tried them first because they were listed as the Canadian supplier. So, I messaged them on their site. Then I e-mailed them. There is no phone number listed, so I couldn't call them. After 5 days, I decided to call Dan and see if he would ship up here. He told me he does it all the time. And then he went on to lament his frustration with Fast Toys and their lack of inventory control. He said that when they do restock (which he said was about once a year), the product sells out fast. And then he gets calls like mine (and I think the OP as well), trying to find out if he ships to Canada.

Anyways, sorry to go off on a tangent. And do I apologize if I offended anyone.

All good I’m a Libertarian minded conservative and don’t get offended very easily! LOL

Completely understand the frustration, I do know he runs his e-commerce business (both car parts and shooting supplies) by himself out of Winnipeg so obviously if he travels for business, vacation or shooting competitions nationally/internationally there will be some delay in response.

I have personally seen him work throughout vacations or multiday shooting competitions to field emails and fill orders, I can’t say what happened in this scenario specifically or the business relationship with the supplier because I don’t know.

I just spoke to Dan @ Inline Fabrication and mentioned your post and he has no idea what you are talking about! We (Fast Toys) order from Inline Fabrication once per month so in regard to your "once per year" comment, that must have been in reference to another dealer in Canada. In fact, we just placed our most recent stock order yesterday with Dan. He has other dealers in Canada so perhaps there is someone else that comment was meant for or some confusion in the details.

We answer ALL emails in a timely manner so if you didn't get a response, your original email either didn't go through our our response went to your spam folder. Regardless, you will enjoy their high quality products and we have been selling them for years.

For anyone else that is interested in the products, feel free to email us at sales@fasttoys.net or check out the web site. We can get most items they sell, so feel free to ask for a quote on any items we do not have listed on our web site.

Thanks!

Soooo ..... my hybrid mounting option for the baseplate is for sure gonna work and look clean without being overly tall on the bench .... as soon as I get the tongue pocket routered out to the right dimensions. It seems the top plate for the Rock Chucker is for some reason just slightly thicker than the other top plates. No idea why.

I'm a wee bit disappointed in the uber expensive, heavy packing table I bought as a reloading bench. The wood top has visible flex when torque is applied to a press handle so it will definitely need a middle bracing leg ... but then my old home made bench had a centre leg so ........

Could always double the thickness with an old solid door or others types of wood underneath… maybe try to brace it first but want to get that flex out!

I would have if my bench top was thicker than 3/4" plywood. I actually spent an hour building router jigs in the shop to do it before I realized it wasn't a great idea on a 3/4" top. I did router out the bench top so the flange of the press plate fits into the base as I did not want to use shims. I also mounted the base plate flush with the front of my bench. I just use a nut driver to secure it, instead of the wing-nuts.

Finally got my Inline Fab system installed on the new loading bench.

Routered pocket to allow the tongue to fit under the baseplate.
