Inspire me with your hunting rifle in 308 Winchester !

After trying many, many rifles over the years, I've found my absolute favourite...the Tikka CTR (I have one in 308 and 7mm-08)

After shooting many 100's of rounds and taking deer with it, here's why ;

- It has an incredible smooth action, I've never once had the bolt bind or stick.
- it's very reliable. Never had a misfeed, failure to extract/eject, failure of any kind
- Ridiculously accurate/precise. I regularly shoot 1/2 moa groups with good ammo and handloads. Have shot plates and paper targets out to 600m. I have won several competitions with it
- has 10 round box mags
- stock interchangeability means I can swap for a regular T3 stock and use the polymer 3 or 5 rd mags

The only con is with the medium weight barrel it is about 1/2 pound heavier than the Lite rifles, but I don't carry it for more than 3 hours so it doesn't bother me (and I'm carrying it, like on patrol, not slung)

I'd honestly like to hear about - "What 308 IS NOT going to last a lifetime"

they are ALL very capable, accurate from the box or with a little tinkering but robust enough and ready for hunting...... personal preference is huge but maybe the biggest factor is Advertisement / marketing hype --- just sayin :)

Here is a new to me Winchester Model 70 Stainless Classic in 308 Win. Has a milled out action to reduce weight, Talley/Brockman peep sight in the rear base and I was told it is a McMillan stock but it sure looks like a Wildcat to me. 7lbs 2oz with the Talleys and the Swaro 3-9×36 mounted. I have high hopes for it.

Hi thymallus arcticus - The stock on your Winchester is a McMillan...they had a partnership with Winchester and supplied stocks for the Winlite series of rifles. They are a great stock!
Well how about that, you learn something new every day. It is a nicer than normal stock, for sure, but I wasn't aware of a McMillann flat top stock coming in the fearherweight pattern, but now I know.

I bought one when McMillan was clearing them out years ago...for $125 direct from them! Gives you an idea of how long ago! I liked the stock and wished I kept it!
