Inspire me with your hunting rifle in 308 Winchester !

A while ago I got Youtube suggestions for European wild boar hunting videos. There is one series by a minor prince of somewhere. He uses a straight-pull with a large magazine. Instead of revisiting 125-yr old turn bolt designs from manufacturers whose purpose is to make proven guns as cheaply as they can, why not seriously examine the modern straight-pull rifles? Savage has one that is a developmental off-shoot of the 110 series. Everything else is European.

I have a Savage 110 Hog Hunter, 20" barrel. Took that action and barrel and put that in tot a MDT Field Stock. Vortex Crossfire II Big Hunter scope and a MDT muzzle break. I have yet to take it hunting, have gone to the range. Really like it. It's not really heavy, but I'll see when I go hunting. If it's to heavy, I'll use it for when I'm in a blind.

I have a lovely Sauer 202 Elegance that has swayed me over. Used to always consider the .308 as the ugly stepsister to the 30-06 but I just couldnt turn down this beautiful rifle when it got listed in the exchange. Carbine model with fluted barrel, it just balances so nice that it is a dream to pack in the field, and quick to shoulder. I try to have most of my -06 guns to use relatively the same load, but this little sister just wouldn't have any part of it. While my "06 guns seem to like the 165 gr bullets, this little 308 stabilizes the 180 grainers. Go figure! This combination hits as hard as the 06 with a bit more limited range, but most of my shots are within a reasonable trajectory range to make it work. Hasnt failed me yet, so I'll keep giving it a chance!

Ive quite enjoyed my tikka t3x ctr (308) with a leupold 3-9x40 BDC scope. Its been surprisingly accurate out to 450 yards with that scope, and helped me harvest a nice 3x2 last deer season.

It was acutally riflechairs videos that had me swap my CTR back to its original stock and use it this year!

308 is a great hunting cartridge. The 308 tumbles any big game in Canada. I currently have a Ruger Gunsite Scout that is amazingly accurate. Compact and has a nice feel to it but am selling it as I plan to build something a little different. I had a beauty Rem700 a few years back that I am kicking myself for selling and prior to parting ways it dropped a pile of whitetails and mulies.

As for anything straight off the shelf, the Winchester 70 Featherweight is a nice, general purpose rifle. The Sako are a great choice; my preference is for the A5, 75, and 85 if you can get your hands on one but I would skip the A7s and S20s. Tikka makes a lighter rifle, good barrels and accurate but I do not like their bolts or receivers. Bergara makes a good rifle, not much on the finish but they are accurate. The new Remington 700s are nice, if you can find one that has made it across the border.

one of the best hunting rounds imo, no frills.

i had a T3 once, loved it.
now we have a franchi in the mix, its great for a budget hunter/shooter -

would screw my 308 barrel onto my Montana 84m but have some faith in the 7mm08 for a while :)

I went to .270 win because the .308 has a hard kick to it. But I had a Browning Bar in .308 that had zero recoil. Very heavy rifle for carrying in the woods. .308 is a good round, hard hitting. .270 is better all around caliber for all size if game and long distance. How many enfields do you you own rifle chair? Just use the .303 British just as good as the .308.
That's top secret but at least more than one... They definitely have a close place to my heart.

I don't know where I got the idea that he did shotgun sports in the Olympics, as far as I can tell it's not true lol.

Saw an interview where he said he uses a 270...
