Installed Flash hider/ recoil compensater and almost blew my eardrums out?

I had a beautiful BSA lightweight sporter in .30-'06, the one with the built in muzzle break. It worked, but man, was that little sucker loud! BSA chambered those rifles in calibres up to .458 Winchester in rifles that weighed just 8-1/2 lbs. The mind boggles .....

Scoped, it was so light, I could hold it with one hand like a pistol. Wouldn't have fired it that way, though. From the bench, it would consistently group 1-1/4" to 1-1/2" with anything I fed it.
At one range where I shot, there were coffee cans hanging on nails on the posts between benches. When I fired, the cans on either side of me would swing! People would look at me with "WTF?" on their faces. Shooting that rifle even a few times hunting took a toll on my hearing. That was before 'lectronic muffs.

A 'smith told me the solution - after I sold the rifle. Thread and sleeve the 1-1/2" on the rearward slotted brake. When I wanted the brake, I could simply unscrew the sleeve or lock tite it in permanently. I miss that rifle .....
I have regular earmuffs but can't hear any thing else with them. I just googled electronic earmuffs and they are the way to go, to bad they're not more compact.

SRS Tactical (above) has quality hearing protection. That's where I got mine. The only complaint I have is that if I'm talking to someone while there is shooting going on, the voice cuts out as well.

Installed a Flash hider/ recoil compensater from Iron Eagle. It's installed with set screws on my Kel Tec SU 16. When I fired the first shot my ears didn't stop ringing for 20 minutes , is this normal. I can fire my 7mm and it's not as loud as this. Also I might add that I am new to all of this , sorry if this is a stupid ?View attachment 10475

??? You don't wear hearing protection???
Hopefully Canadian taxpayers will not pay for you to learn sign language when you go deaf...
Like wtf man!

You are shooting a 7mm without hearing protection? You Sir are FRICKING INSANE! You are doing permanent and serious damage to your ears with every single shot.

WHAT? WHAT?..... No wait , that's my eyes. Lol just kidding. I only use my 7 mm and 30 30 for hunting, usually only fire a couple to make sure it is sighted in and a couple on the hunt. I just got my .223 and I did buy a pair of earmuffs , I heard that it would be a little louder with muzzle break. So I tryed 1 shot and holy shat was it ever fricking loud. I ordered a flash hider but got both in one. I won't be shooting no more without the hearing protection that's for sure. I just wanted to know if it was normal for it to be that loud, like sonic! Anyway thanks for the concern and I learned a couple more things here today . I'd like to add that this site is awesome and so are the people on here, it is becoming quite addictive.

Shooting "a few 7mm" without ear protection is quite dumb also.
As is shooting a braked rifle without hearing protection.

Always wear ear protection.
I almost always wear double ear protection (plugs+muffs), makes it wayyy more comftable, and also a must when firing magnum braked rifles.

I double up on the ear protection when I'm using or others near me are using a firearm with a muzzle brake. I have ringing in my ears all the time from all the abuse I put my ears through as a teenager. I don't want it getting any worse.

I've hunted in ONT. AB,NS and NL and I've never seen a hunter wearing ear muffs. So I don't see why calling me dumb and other things are helping anything. I can only come to the conclusion that you do not hunt. I asked a simple ? Simple answers only please as apparently I have no common sense and I am dumb and soon to be deaf. LOL. Also, thanks for the replys.

Use a rifle without hearing protection, and hearing damage will occur. Up to the shooter to decide.
