Interested in Diving into precision shooting

thanks for the reply guys. Basically what i'm trying to say is, I'd like to upgrade to a higher quality rig. that being said i'm not sure what i should try next. Do i Go with a nice .308 or do i jump up to the .338? I like the timberwolf because its a higher quality rifle capable of shooting long range. I agree i would prefer a smaller caliber because i'm a cheap german but i'm not afraid to spend a little money to have fun. I dont want to go custom because frankly i dont know enough about the parts to do so. i dunno would a coyote suit my purpose better? Or maybe an Accuracy International? but i'd like to support a Canadian company so... i think PGW has my money. But what would be better? I'll be shooting gongs mostly.

Some people need Giant calibers to go shooting. My favorite caliber right now is my 204 ruger. Shortly after that 6br. 300WM and other big calibers come farther down the list.

The orignal poster wanted to know if he should start off with a smaller caliber. You would have to be special to say that starting off with a small round is a bad idea.

Never said starting off with a small caliber is a bad idea. See I do not put down other peoples choices unless ribbing a friend for s**ts and giggles. I get tired of weeny fuddy duddy types always wanking off over other peoples choices. The best is they say it must be small weiner syndrome well last time I checked that is not my issue and I check oftenLaugh2 So shoot what you like and what ever floats your boat hell I may have to get a 20mm now:eek:

I never said that you said anything.

Back to the original topic.

I think you should get a Timberwolf. Cuz you can afford it and they are awesome. :D

Sorry man, didn't realize using common sense was offensive. doing things just because you can is not always wise.

Young guys don't protect their ears and regret it later in life. Recoil is an issue and like damaged ear drums, soft tissue damage in time will catch up with folks. 338lm for target shooting, if not managed correctly, can be flat out foolish. Heck your life, your body, do as you wish, after all you are free to do so, I thought pointing out the obvious would be helpful, obviously not to all.

Guys used to laugh at the asbestos warnings to. Look where that's gone.

Anyone looking at long range target work should consider recoil. It's an issue.

You obviously have never shot a Timberwolf in .338 LM there is very little recoil. My wife is a small girl she shoots the Timberwolf no problem and is very accurate with it. I wear double hearing protection and have my hearing tested every year at work with good results. You should know what you are talking about before offering advice or forming a opinion. Your more then welcome to try any of my rifles if you are in Ontario you will be very suprised at how little recoil even my .50BMG has.

I shoot competitions from 300 yards to 1000 yards. When I get range time to practice on a normal day, I fire 50-60 rounds. During matches it could be up to 70 rounds/day. Really busy days like during the last few days of the CFRC, between shooting team matches and final matches it could get up near 80 rounds in a day.

I don't think anyone would want to be pounded by the above mentioned rounds every day for 10 days shooting a .388. Not only would the body take a pounding, for 500 rounds the cost would be what, around $2500? The wallet would take a pounding too. How many rounds can you shoot out of a .338 before the barrel is toast? Anybody shoot the barrel out, on a .338 yet?

Get a T-wolf, you won't regret it.. Crazy accurate and hardly any recoil. I've shot a 30-06 that had more recoil then the T-wolf..

Timberwolf all they way ...

My barrel is getting close to rebarrel! It costs about $2 a round to reload .338 my brass lasts forever with annealing so cost is not as bad as most think. My .338 LM feels like a 223 compared to my .50 BMG well yeah that pounds you pretty good although I am used to it:evil::evil: At Borden I have been sandwiched between 2 .50's lets just say :HR: Still kept shooting and sacked up and took my .50 therapy:D:D:D

What do you need one of them for arent they like $50 per round:stirthepot2: and I heard through my girlfriends brothers uncles sisters friends that it will tear your shoulder out of its socket and detach your retinas. Buy a T-wolf at your own risk Laugh2

I'm the guy that goes to Borden to get long range practice and test long range loads. After driving a little over 4 hours to get there, I am the one that's a little cranky when I get my farking hat blown off while in the aim, by the guys with the .50's and .338 with muzzle brakes on their rifles.:slap:

So please when you show up with a boomer, let the RO know so he can squad you 10 targets down from us guys shooting pea shooters.;)

I have always went with the muzzle brake squad when at Borden. You have given too much info now I will have John Dunmore watching you so he can let me know when your about to shoot:evil::evil: :p We should have a portable barrier to allow some degree of suppression:cool:

John is the one that purposely trys the sneek in with the pea shooter crowd, then pretends to be upset when banished to the far end of the range:p I am sure he will be along shortly to plead in innocents;)

I watched 3 guys shooting on one target in Borden one day, two guys shooting .338's with a .50 in the middle. When the guy that was shooting the .50 was going to shoot the 2 guys shooting .338's stood up and moved back. So see, even if you are grouped together with other shooter using muzzle brakes, doesn't mean you are going to make any friends:p

Alright i think i narrowed it down. Do i get a timberwolf or a Coyote (.308).

Coyote: Pros

Smaller caliber = cheaper to shoot
More practical applications

Cons
Less range (you know what i mean)

Timberwolf: Pros

Larger Range more easily.
More "look cool factor"

Cons:
Expensive in every way and i'm cheap haha

feel free to add but this is what i've come up with so far

If your cheap the T-wolf can pull at the cheap strings. I have had the pleasure of shooting the Coyote in .308 all I can say is wow! Pure ###! I was very very impressed I will be getting one when $$$ are available. I am absolutely thrilled with both my PGW rifles love them:xes My friend Matt Moser on here has 3 PGW in .338LM .260 and .50BMG he feels the same as me.

They should be ashamed and suspended from the muzzle brake misfits john is our leader Laugh2

"Muzzle Brake Misfits" :p You guys need to get shirts made up with this on them in big bold letters, front and back. That way we know who you are and will be able to point you to the correct end of the firing point:)

Go with the T-wolf. Cry once, smile forever knowing you made the right choice. :D You already have the 30-06 to shoot the same range as the coyote.
