Intersting Read - CDN Forces Rifles

Yes, it is possible to have your 20" rifle accessable at all times. I should have said better accessable.

It is my understanding that the PDW will replace the handgun as well. When I talked to the guy, they really hadn't defined what the PDW was going to be, so any speculation as to a SMG or a AR type pistol would be just that...speculation.

This could be the end to the CFs oldest in-front line service weapon...the Inglis highpower. Made in 44 and 45, it likely will not get to see it's 70th birthday in DND service.

As to not outfitting the frontline soldiers, I would think one has to agree that things have got a lot better in the last few years. The squeeze of the Liberal budgets on procurements has ended for now. If the C7A2 project were to happen today, rather than in the early 2000s when it did, prhaps we would see more 16" barrels.

It wasn't that many years ago that the CF was going to operations with softskinned vehicles, modular tentage, and hard rations.

look the simple fact is this "Boland" guy didn't know what he was talking about, and probably still doesn't. he's an asshat. seriously, an asshat.

LOL

stencollector.
I dont think the 20" barrel should be used outside the DM role.
For a PDW - C8CQB - keep the same lowers and maual of arms. It may be nice that some homo in DLR/CTS/Soldier Systems beleives that rilfe/carbine is to heavy fpor a bunch of wogs to carry -- big wip -- he is wasting the CF's money and endangering them with a sub par product.

And secondly I've got a bit of operational experience to back of my choices.

Well the bottom line is the CF has had the C8 for armoured and support trades all long as they've had the C7 and there was never enough to go around or in the right peoples hands, now they are making more C8 SFW (10,000 or so at last count I heard) and in the end dimes to donuts there won't be enough to go around or in the right peoples hands...

What you going to do, all gov's/mils are slow in making pers arms upgrades the CF is just the slowest.

Guess no one caught my reference to ND's. (I thought it was funny)

Even if DND did the C7 upgrade now we'd probably end up with the same rifle. It's not the fighting soldiers that pick the final design, it's a god damn weapons tech. I'm not slamming weapon techs, but they don't necessarily know what the infantry needs or wants.

Why the hell do I have ambidextrous components on my rifle? I'm right handed and I never asked for it. Meanwhile we have guys that are left handed that don't have the ambi controls, and the techs don't have any more units to install. Not to mention the fact that when a right handed individual has ambidextrous controls on his rifle that aren't protected, you end up with a lot of people who accidentally dump their mags. Anyone been on a ruck march lately? It's hilarious.

That cocking handle is horrendous, did they actually do any T&E with real soldiers? I doubt it, they probably gave it to an air force unit and asked them to do a PWT with it.

The C8 SFW or FTHB is a bit of a joke to me. Is it handier? Yes, but it's also heavier than a C7. Why did they go with a heavy barrel? And that sleeve for Diemaco's god awful M203 mount? Don't even get me started.

All they needed to do was slap on a 16" midlength with a rail mount, than the whole M203 argument wouldn't even matter. You wouldn't need to issue to different types of rifles (now up to three rifles C8, C8FTHB and C7A2)

ETA: Yes, kit has come along a long way. I think about the only original issue piece of kit that I have left are my ruck and rain suit. Just because something is new doesn't mean that it's the best piece of kit though. They still have a long way to go. I've been on some trials and most of the time they already have their mind made up. Your just there so they can say that it's been tested.

The SFW barrel and the retarded M203 spacer came out of someone weird ass delusion that you may indeed fire 20 mags in a tic; from one spot - with no cooling and you may also forget you have a 40mm in the barrel while doing all of this
My though would be IF I where indeed in a contact that required a retarded amount of ammo (and really "supression" fire does not work all that well) - I would likley be launch eggs from the 203 as fast as I could pump it.
