IPSC Ammo Regulations

Should be, as factory ammo is loaded a bit on the hotter side. I never heard of commerical made ammo not making min PF. But just check the velocity on the box, and you can figure the power factor if in doubt.

If youre in ontario, don't stress about meeting pf until ypu go to a level 3. You won't see a chrono in a club level.

90% of factory ammo will exceed the pf requirments.
Be weary of competition loads, test before you trust.

Heavier bullet weights shoot softer especially out of a PCC, but you will be fine with any 115gr, 124gr or 147gr. I personally would stay away from Winchester white box ammo reasonably priced ammo for factory is Blazer (brass cased not aluminum).

Any name brand will be fine.

115gr is minimum bullet weight,
When they chrono your rounds, they weigh the bullets.
If the bullet weighs less than 115gr, your score does not count.

Shoot 124gr minimum for that reason

This is not true at all. There is no minimum bullet weight in any division other than Open for people trying to make major PF. If you don't make the minimum weight for Open Major then your ammo will be withdrawn, but you can still find other ammo to use. Any other division or trying to make minor the bullet is pulled and multiplied by the velocity to get the power factor. It's only if you don't make 125 PF that you're shooting for no score.

This all being said, you'll pretty much only find 115 grain and above unless you have some fancy self defense or frangible ammo, so OP you'll be fine with any standard FMJ factory load.

Ok I'll throw this out there.
At the recent L3 at Sharon my buddy was shooting 115 gr PMC factory ammo and he failed to make PF at the chrono. The reason for this was he was shooting a 4.25" barrel, so the bullet wasn't able to make adequate velocity before exiting the barrel. Now if he was shooting 124 gr bullets then he would have been fine.
So my suggestion is to stay away from 115 gr bullets. They are a bit on the snappy side anyways. Stick with 124 or 147 bullets. I used to love the Magtech 147 ammo before I started reloading. I think the 147 gr flat points came in around 142 PF last time I used them.
I'd also recommend staying away from the Blazer stuff. Way too hot and some guns just don't like them. I never got them to feed properly in my Shadow 2.
Also the Winchester stuff is garbage, unless you really really enjoy cleaning your gun every 100 rounds.

If you are shooting factory ammo, buy 124gr and you'll be safe for shooting Minor PF.

Stay away from 115gr. Too snappy, and you may have issues at Chrono depending on your barrel length.

I have personally seen Winchester White Box in 40S&W FAIL to make major PF. A friend from the US came to Ontario to shoot the Triangle Level3 at BRRC/Wentworth/Brant years ago. He went through the RCMP hassle to register/import his pistol, but decided to buy ammo locally out of convenience - big mistake.

One of the the considerations when Production Division was created was that you could go anywhere in the world with your favourite pistol and shoot 'off the shelf' 9mm ammo.

I've had UMC (yellow box) 9mm ammo fail to make power factor. Granted that was probably almost 10 years ago.
My advice is don't just assume factory will make PF.

Any 124gr with an advertised velocity over 1080fps should be more than fine.

I think minimum fps for a 124gr to hit 125pf is around 1020fps

If in doubt, just do the math. Muzzle velocity and bullet weight should be on the box…multiply them and divide by 1000 to get power factor…

Eg: 124gr X 1080fps = 133920 * 1000 = 133 power factor (134 actually if you round up)
