Not that you asked..but

I agree with almost everything you said ;)

I don't think the opinions of Mater class shooters are worth any more than the rest of us mere mortals...but what the hell do I know

Didn't mean to sound like Master class shooters are any smarter or better people than any other class of shooter. Sorry if it came out that way. You and I both know that some Master class shooters can be a real thorn sometimes.

The point was that there was some travelled experience from some team members that may have seen what the "local-only" shooters may not get to see.

And you are right..........."what the hell do you know"?:D

-For Doon........sorry for the hard-hit reply....just seemed like a beat-up when I read it.

I really dont mind "working" while shooting at the same time.If the squad is big enough(and at the major shoots they usually are),then there is still plenty of time to figure out the stage, load mags etc.

One thing that keeps me from going to some of the larger matches is that they end up being so drawn out over a few days in the work/shoot cycle that it makes it hard to find enough time to get away from work to attend these, let alone the extra expense of hotel rooms. If the same amount of shooting can be accomplished in a day or two less, all the better. Its also been my experience that during the half day of "work" at some of the matches, there is sometimes the ridiculous situation of 8 guys patching 6 targets, real waste of time.

Way back in the 80's we would occasionally recruit the local boy scouts for the shoot to patch, set popper etc. They all received a small amount of money at the end of the weekend. This worked really well, but I couldnt see that happening in this day and age!

I agree fully with your comments about drawn out matches. Too long for no reason. But that is only my personal opinion.

Actually, Stormbringer has had some recruits at many of his matches with the proceeds going to different causes. He is very creative that way!

Damm straight Gambit. Matches are as much a social event as compitition. I love just getting out whenever possible havin some fun and putting some holes in paper.

while I agree that there is a huge social element to matches, it's important to note that that is not the reason for them. It's a competition, first and foremost. As such it needs to be run so that all competitors get the same opportunity, at least as much as possible, as others. So that means ensuring work loads are the same for everyone. Having dedicated workers, typically not competitors, is one way to do this. However that is not normally fiscally achievable at most matches, so we need to fall back onto different plans.

What may help is changing format how people get into IPSC.
Not only doing BB and first classifier but also come to L II match and help patching and work. This will help them understanding the rules and also set them into right direction for future.
At the match (especially L III) shooter should work as little as possible so he/she can concentrate on shooting not working, like Slavex says.
