If I was to stretch and be an armchair ass from the camera angle. Looks like he did not even have any LOS on the handgun during the unload, show/make clear portion. Almost looks like the RO was behind him not worrying about shooter showing clear.
That is the only thing I could possibly see, but camera angle makes that a guess, not a known issue.
Jarlath has it.
But I may have been mistaken.
Or maybe I guessed right.
Or not.
Certainly it's possible this video could lead to either conclusion. To me, showing clear implies the RO is positioned to see clear. You can't show if no one can see.
I also believe that an RO needs to maintain full peripheral vision. Wearing a towel on one's head does not enhance peripheral vision.
I've concluded from the way many of you circled the wagons and attacked me that:
1. the RO was actually in a position to see that the firearm's chamber is clear;
and
2. that you are ok with an RO impairing his peripheral vision;
and
3. that some here need to consider that discussing or bringing up safety matters should not be seen as breaking taboo. Do we not all benefit by maintaining a culture of safety, where safety is valued and is everyone's business?
imo, the elite who posted on this thread need to decide whether discussing safety is ok, or whether it is something that is to be subject to insult and ridicule.
I think rule 1.1.1.1 should be more than good PR.
Now how about discussing Viper26's idea about giving a shooter some personal space... Sounds good to me, as long as at the end the RO is in a position to clearly see (i.e. verify) that a firearm is clear of ammunition.
