IPSC On-line match sign up

Lol...well I lose a couple of hundred by not working at my real job for the day, $20 - $30 either way really doesn't make much difference to me at that point. If I really worried about that kinda stuff I'd take up a cheaper hobby....like needlepoint. :p

I do not agree with this type of sign up system.
BUT, I have signed up to work and then shoot.
Is this a wise move?
It frustrates the shooters. You are having a match for the shooters, then they are your guests. You do not make them work and treat the ones who cannot as second hand citizens.

Personally I'd just not use that function, get my workers ahead of time, prefill the slots they want, then open up the match for everyone. That way I control which slots are filled (CRO, RO, Scorekeeper) to make sure I get the right staff for the match.

Worked for me. It takes a little planning but it works.:D

I had this same discussion 2 years ago with a member here about the Quebec Provincials at EOHC. Like Quigleys example, for us folks down south it means an extra night at the animal farm. I was told to shoot, but if I didn't work my scores would be torn up, and when I protested, that my $100 would be used for beer and pizza for the match staff. :eek:

All I do now is shoot/work local matches, and travel to shoot USPSA matches.
 
Hmmm, the AWARE match, when Pat Legere ran the match, they put 350 shooters through 12 stages over 3 days. All we had to do was patch with our squad....

No...they still have the same problem we have. They have 15 or 20 regulars that do most of the work...and everyone else works their required 3 hours. There's a few there that I swear if their 3 hours were up in the middle of a long course...they would drop the timer...turn around and leave and let the shooter continue on their own. When you force someone to work...they will do the minimum.

They also have half day shoots which means you could shoot and work the same day. Our Provincials is a full day shoot...so if we had mandatory work...it would be a two day event.

You're comparing apples to...butterscotch...no...make that root beer....

In the past we've had guys literally score keep for a couple of shooters then want their RO cards signed...they always walked away disappointed

Man I miss her, she was the best, her matches were a blast and were always on time.

The S & W Invitational was the same 1/2 day format 9 or 10 stages 200 rounds and ran like clock work.

Larry Houck's Summer blast, 10 stages about 220 rounds in 1/2 format on a range 1/2 the size of Guelph (except it had way more trees)

Pat moved on into body building, The S & W was killed by the trap shooters at the club (greed) and Larry moved to New Mexico (I've been asking him to have a "Winter Blast" for us Canadians)
 
The Miller/S&W is back, last year it was the Northeast Invitational and Area 7 and they are holding it again this year. It is still run at the Fulton range and most of the people involved are the same one that put on the S&W. It's not a long drive, if you want to attend a really well run professional match, (squad briefing before the match, prizes, efficient squads and scheduling) go shoot this one!

Pay RO, yes pay them and we will never have
any problems.
Every IPSC match makes money, some make
a lot of money. Why we don't pay ROs and
we will not have issue. Then maybe all over
sudden, there will be a line up to be a RO.

Very bad idea...

What's next...pay the setup crew...and the tear down crew...then the BOD, the club reps...and on an on. RO's are no more (or less) important than the rest of the volunteers needed to run the organisation.
 
Volunteering is good, but $ makes the world go round.:D

It's like in hockey, If you are a goalie, You play for free and at times you even get paid to come out or stay for the next team.:cool:

Lets face it, with the bigger matches $ for RO's given one way or another will help. As well you may then hire the best help available.

Match fees, food, beer, dinner, gas card, hotel fees, paid adult entertainment and other forms of payment comes to mind. Just thinking out loud here. When I was a club rep, I used some of these methods. They worked for me.
