IPSC Ont Board Elections

Although I can get the match scores online, and am far to impatient to wait for its puplication to see how I did I do like the sitrep. Nice to get a little something. Would be nice to have more like pictures from matches as stated, just something a bit more.

That would run up the printing costs though. Lots of folks would probably complain about that.....

Hey Quigley.... after looking at the list in SitRep.. one question came to mind..

Does the board (IPSC Ontario) have any official business dealing with any of the potential new board members.. ? actually the more you think about it.. does IPSC Ontario have any official business dealings with the companies that current or potential new board members are a part of?? (Eg. potential conflict of interests)

We do very little "business"...but there are no conflicts that I am aware of (either intentional or otherwise)

It wasn't an accusation.. it was just something I noticed that there are people with shooting related businesses on the board (or maybe soon to be).. and the potential need for rules around conflict of interest..

Since the only shooting business conflict would be at the individual matches, I don't see a huge potential for abuse.

The normal concern would be an abuse of position to gain a business advantage, and I just don't see it. IPSC Ontario don't have enough direct control over individual matches that anyone could put meaningful pressure to bear.

Frankly, if anything, I can see the board members being in a bind if they have to make decisions that potentially annoy thier customers. Fortunately, we're a sport full of type A personalities, and a few harsh words or hurt feelings rarely carry on for too long.

Perhaps wiser minds can find the problem, but I just don't see it.

We don't deal with firearms related businesses...they wouldn't sell products that we would buy.

We buy targets & patches, trophies, we cover hotel and travel expenses etc. We don't buy guns or accessories or bullets...

Interesting question...but I don't see it as ever being a legitimate or probable issue

Regarding having business minded people on the board...business minded people are generally cost conscience, hard working with management and marketing skills etc...sounds allot better to me than a bunch of politicians (school teachers and lawyers)

Disclaimer...no school teachers or lawyers were harmed in the making of this post. The names were changed to protect the innocent. Any similarities to any actual teachers or lawyers, living, dead or undead...is purely coincidental.

These guys love the sport so much they made it there business, that is the kind of passion we need backing this sport.

The only conflict you could ever stretch to find, is that their advancement of the sport on the board, would make more business for shooting sports and some of that might come there way.

in regards to your sitrep "issue", put a check box on your membership form that says, "Receive Sitrep by Mail" and another box with "Receive Sitrep by EMAIL" with a blank for them to put in their email addy. we did that at my gunclub and reduced our printing and mailing costs by about 80%. If people still want snailmail, they get it. It's easy as hell to do the mail merge so only envelopes or labels get printed for people that have selected Snail, and for things like ballots you still mail to all members. pretty simple and should satisfy everyone.

well for those of you who aren't familiar with IPSC Alberta, we do just about everything except our elections electronically. when we first got away from publishing a newsletter there were a few grumblers however the majority (i would estimate in excess of 95%) loved it. we set up our own forum with a general area and a members only area. we allow any IPSC member to join the members only area, especially since you have to be a member to do our on line registration. have our own forum allows us to get information out to members in a hurry. some of the things we do is match copy, squadding list and general information like start time or lunch availability. personally (and not just cause i introduced it) i like it a lot better then the old newsletter/snail mail thing.

Received my ballot today.......now who to vote for....hmmmmmm.

I am surprised, that you can't vote for a specific position, for a specific person......whomever gets the most votes gets the worst job? How does this work exactly?

As per our Constitution...

31. The president shall be chosen by a secret ballot vote of the directors at the first directors
meeting following the election. On the first ballot the candidate with the lowest number of votes
will drop out and all five directors will then vote again for the president. This style of voting
shall continue until all but one candidate has been eliminated.

32. At any subsequent board meeting, the board may remove the president by unanimous
vote of the other four directors and the directors shall then elect another president from the
remaining four directors in the same manner as in the preceding section.

33. The vice-president shall be chosen and may be removed in the same way as the president.
