I've been thinking about going to do the Blackbadge training course and was discussing with a guy at my range. He mentioned there's a list of approved handguns on the IPSC Ontario website but I can't for the life of me find it. I'd really like to look at this list because if none of my guns are on it then there's no point in me looking further into this (I've basically spent all I can afford on guns for thy next little while).

Thanks

Ah ok, thank you. Guy at the range made it sound Ontario specific.

Edit: Well crap, the gun I was thinking of using isn't on there, and neither are my other handguns. Stupid max length barrel length of 127mm. What's the purpose of that rule anyways?

For the blackbadge you do not need a production approved gun. Shoot what you have. It’s a safety course not an official match

The division rules of the sport do apply to the black badge so he can't shoot what ever he wants. For example he can't show up with a norc sig clone chambered in 7.62x25. I've actually seen that because the instructor didn't communicate with his students prior to the course.

He also needs to be concerned with the holster rules and accuracy pre-requisites.

IPSC ON like all other sections follow the rules set forth by NROI Canada which receives the rules from IPSC World. There are no section specific rules. At least there shouldn't be.

When it comes to the handgun, other than minimum caliber and a safe functioning pistol, there ought to be no reason why a person can’t do the BB with what they have.

Minimum caliber is a good point though, I think people have asked in the past about running the bb with a 22

I found IPSC to be a fashion show, The right gun, the right holster etc, it never ends and gets expensive.

It is just like golf. A $50 set can finish 18 holes no problem.
A $15,000 will do the same.
But at the end we enjoy it. Expensive is not a must.
$400 norinco 1911 in 9 mm can go a long way with a trigger job.
If anyone wants to be at the top..... well the top price need to be paid.

Our range was closed to the public a few sundays ago by these guys also. I stuck around to watch, not only is it a fashion show *ick flexing contest, it must not be about accuracy, these guys couldn't hit $hit.

I realize that's maybe not the norm but around my neck of the wood it sure.is.

maybe you can show them how its done. right?

Interesting that the Walther P38 and P1 are approved, but the P35 Browning Hi-power ( our still current after 75 years military pistol) is not. Mileage, perhaps?

P38 is DA/SA so it conforms with production rules that the first shot fired mus be double action (or striker fired).
Hi-power is SA only. Puts you in Standard minor. Not a super competitive handgun for the division. The HP also comes with a magazine disconnect that, without modification, makes it less user friendly for the "hammer down, holster" part.

Guess I’m not shooting IPSC. I own 15 guns and not one on fire hat list.
In IPSC - you compete in divisions - ie. similar designs of guns.

That list is for two divisions of IPSC; Production and Production optics divisions.

IPSC has 4 other divisions that guns compete in;
Classic (single stack 1911s)
Revolver (duh..)
Standard (Usually Double stack non-compensated racey guns)
and Open (Anything goes)

99% of center fire handguns fit in at least one of those other divisions.

Ha Ha Ha Ha.. Just saying that all the fancy guns and clothes they wear don't seem to make them shoot any better.
Sometimes no. But they're having a good time doing it.
I doubt the photographer's vests in IDPA make them shoot better, the camo outfit in CQB nor the stetsons in SASS; but they like doing it.
Talk to any one of 'em - they're all shooters like you and me.
