IPSC Ontario elections

Sheesh... take off moose hunting for a week and miss all the action. I haven't been in the game for very long but from my little experience I will look at what people have done and what their vision for the future is. I would like to see more 3gun going on and there are only a couple of people running who seem genuinely interested in that. I also look at who is trying to bring people into the sport by holding BB courses. I can think of one nominee who has probably taught 50% of the new IPSC members in Ontario over the last year or two.

Just cuz he keeps telling people that doesn't make it so...

Sure, at the end of the year when all the 2013 course are done.
I can tell you that by that time, most, if not all of the current BB instructors will have met or exceeded the requirements needed to maintain their instructor rating.

Question for all of the Candidates. All of you in one way or another talk about you desires to grow the sport, and increase membership in Ontario. I believe that actions speak louder than words. To that end, how many Black badge courses did the instructors instruct, and how many matches did the MDs organize in 2013? I realize that some of you do both, but I'm not deciding based on the folks that do both.

All of this is discussed on the IPSC-ONT forum.

Read the Q & A over there, and I wish that taking the high road was a little more popular. This thread invited members to ask questions. Should none of the candidates choose to answer here, then so be it. My choices are pretty much made. But other undecideds may still want to know.

I am still undecided, can you share your picks and tell us why you support those individuals.

Thanks

I went onto the IPSC Ontario site and did a bit of research for myself. What I was looking for is how many matches were at the candidates clubs, How many black badge courses each candidate tried to offer this year.

I also looked at who properly answered the questions asked of them, and who was able to stay classy in the midst of heated debates. The two that in my view were on top were Alex & Eugene. My decision for the other spots I am going to keep to myself.

Not that I have any vested interest in what happens in the Ontario elections (nor do I actually know who is running for what positions), but the number of Black Badge Courses offered, or the number of times an individual has been a match director are poor criteria for determining your vote. People want to help out in whatever way they can. Some people are good instructors, some are good administrators but you want to pick the best people for the job. The job for a board member is not to teach a Black Badge Course, nor is it to put on a match; those are the duties of a Black Badge Instructor and a Match Director. Your vote should be based on who you feel has the best vision for the direction of IPSC Ontario in the next few years and who has working in the best interests of the membership.

This was what i though was well said.

Independently of other factors, I think this says a lot. Whoever is selected needs to be able to work with the rest of the group, deal with disagreement, even criticism, and be open and responsive.

The reason that I pointed to match & black badge course organizing, is because one thing that all of that I found repeated in all of the candidate bios is the need to increase membership, & grow the sport, and retain current members. I believe that some candidates are talking about what they are going to do, while others are currently more active in actually doing it a little better than others. I felt I had to look beyond the bios, as to me they were all great, but reasonably similar.

My two announced public picks do incorporate administration, combined with a vision that I feel should grow the sport. That's where Eugene and Alex come in. I like what I have seen of Eugene's IT work, that if he feels that he has more time to give, I'll take it. When you look at ipsc matches organized by Alex, they are always well organized, & have some of the largest turnouts in the province. What ever his vision is, needs to be shared on a larger level. A seat on the board may be able to accomplish that. If he is able to help equal his success at other locations around the province, I feel that not only will the sport grow, but membership retention will also be achieved as well.
