I just signed up for the IPSC black badge course. It is 4 weeks from now.
I will be using my Glock 17 Gen 4.
I heard that i need at least four mags. since it already comes with 3, i will buy another one to have the four i need.
What holster, belt and mag holders do you recommend?

Thanks!!

You should get at least one more mag. I truth, I'd count on having 6. Four on the belt, one in the gun, and one rooney mag in the back pocket.

As for a holster, for the course just get a simple Uncle Mikes or Bladetech DOH. For a belt, I use Shooters Gear, but any 2 part belt will work fine.

X2.

I recently took the Black Badge and it was nice having 6 mags as I was the only one able to do one portion without waiting for some of my dropped mags given back to me.

Four mags will work for the course but 5-6 just makes it more comfortable.

CR Speed or Double Alpha belt and/or mag pouches. I use a BladeTech DOH holster and I concur with five/six mags. You may want to consider one magnetic mag holder at this time.

what's the difference between belt loop and paddle holsters?
i tried searching but couldnt find it
and let's say if i go with uncle mike's kydex holster and mag holder, what belt can i use?

The holster isn't a huge deal until you really learn how to shoot and then want to cut another second off your time.

Any holster that covers the trigger and holds your gun securely will work. I have a fobus holster and until the rest of my game catches up, it's not necessary to spend a lot of money on one.

Spend your money on a 5th or 6th mag and have 4 or 5 mag holders. If you have money left over that you want to spend get an extended mag release button and / or smaller/finer fibre/tritium sights. The stock sights are great for 2-15 yards but make the standards difficult at 25.

I don;t think I am giving bad advice here. I have a Glock 22 and have been in 4 or 5 fun shoots after my black badge in April. The provincials are in 2 weeks at my home range and I'm tryign to spend more time on getting alphas than cutting a second of my draw time.

paddle holsters fit inside the rim of your pants and kinda clamp against it.. belt ones have belt loops. at least get a 1" or greater leather belt if you don't have one. The fancy IPSC style velcro belts from CR speed, etc are nice for that.

Forget the paddle holsters. They are great for cops who wear plain clothes and need to dismount the gun regularly.

You will want to get the two part belt system, unless you relish the idea of threading and unthreading your gear for every match.

6 mags for sure, myself I recommend a Bladetech DOH holster and a Shooters Gear inner & outer belt system. I have the Cr Speed too, its great stuff too! Pouches, I use Cr Speed, but there are alot of good choices out there.

BladeTech holster is the best you can buy for sensible money if not the best for Prod. out of all choices. It can be used in IDPA as well. Get DOH one.
Belt - get CR Speed or Double Alpha or something of two-belts design, inner that goes thru pants' loops and outer that attaches to inner belt with Welcro. Get one size larger than you normally wear.
5 mag pouches is ideal, 4 will do.
I'd go as far as to say that 5 mags is minimum, more is better but you normally won't need more than 6 per stage, unless you shoot USPSA where some stages are minimum of 60 rounds :D
Pouches - CR Speed or Double Alpha are good.

Get good shooting glasses, try them on, move eyes side to side and see if there is any distortion and/or it gets fuzzy. Yellow is good for dim lighting, red or copper is good for summer days outside.

Get good headset, try them on. It should sit around your ears, not ontop and pushing on them, or you'll get tired fast. Peltor Ultimate 10 is excellent and cheaper, I got one as backup and for visitors.

UpLULA is a great mag loading helper.

Mag brush like Arredondo is great for outdoors when your mags get dirty been dropped on the ground.

what do you think about the fobus hoslters?

They are a total waste of money...

Craptastic.

Terrible........

Go the extra mile and get the Bladetech. That will last you forever.
The Fobus is a cheap entry level and will need to be replaced soon after you start shooting as you wrestle to get your gun out of it time after time.

Careful swapping anything out of your Glock 17, you could end up shooting in standard division minor rather than production.

Bladetech is a decent holster and reasonably priced. However I would suggest uncle mikes everything for taking your black badge.

I have noticed that a lot of people express an interest in taking the black badge. Some actually show up at a few matches. But only a few become IPSC enthusiasts.

Until this interest turns into a passion, it makes more sense to me to start with a modest setup.

I see Ms and GMs use BT holsters, that's one piece that needs no changing. And if you decide to sell it later, you have better chances someone would be interested in it and most likely won't loose much $$.

I must agree. Also after taking the BB you may want to try IDPA and the uncle mike stuff will work for you in that shooting sport.
I have a set from my BB course and use the equipment when I shoot the occasional IDPA match.
