Since both of the match will take place in Ontario this year.

Are there any differences in registration procedure for the National since it's my first time to shoot a National.:)

Provincials are in Brooks this year. registration will be via the IPSC Alberta on line registration system.

Nationals are being run by IPSC Ontario so it is hard to say what system they will use but i am guessing email/EMT or mail in.

Scratch the previous post. Information about Ontario provincials will be posted to the IPSC Ontario web site. Normally you download an application, fill it in and mail it back with a check or money order. I suppose the same will stand for the Nationals. So, watch the IPSC Ontario web site for news.

This being my first nationals also, i was wondering how it works regarding when you shoot. 2 full days out of the four? Or half day each day? The reason i ask is of course work related and how much time off i need. A little more time needed for me to get there and back and of course less time off used means another match.
Appreciate any info/advice.

You can expect to be in Kingston from Wed night ( maybe Thursaday AM) untill after the Banquet on Sunday. Not every day will be spent at the range but typically expect to shoot 2 x 1/2 days, usually 1 starting AM and 1 PM. Because it is a nationals all the teams in each division shoot at the same times for Open, Standard and Production, that way no one wins the weather lottery that are shooting against each other.

I think if possible this year the squad schedules and lists may be posted at least a couple of weeks before the match, this would help with planning but of course cheap airfares require non changable ticket well in advance.

Thanks for the info Ipsik. The nationals are slated to be from wed 27th to sun 31st. Not trying to make myself sound stupid, but you said a person could get there on the 27th or early on the 28th. Does that mean there will be no shooting on these days. Would those days be for workers and the officials to shoot? Sorry about the simple questions but i'm kinda on my own here. Thanks.

John

For the last few years shooting has taken place Thursday, Friday and Saturday, with Sunday being in reserved in case of bad weather and if not needed is used for a shoot off day. generally the banquet and awards is Sunday night. However, last time we shot Nationals in Kingston it was Wednesday through Saturday. Normally the Nationals website is up in the beginning of January. till it goes up it i s hard to plan because you never know.

The other thing you might want to factor in is that you will be going three time zones. sometimes that can throw you for a loop. as well you are going to an area where 90% humidity is consider a nice day. Personally i start watching the seat sales for going down the Saturday/Sunday/monday and then back the holiday monday and go down a few days early to adjust to the time and the weather. it works for me YMMV.

Thanks for that info Walter. I think i will simmer down and keep my eye on the IPSC Canada web site. May be getting ahead of myself wanting to get things booked. I hear about humidity from club members here (from Ontario) regarding Ontario. I have no idea what that is like! Will be interesting. So long as it doesn't end up with someone saying Hey theres some guy face down in bay 5, with the reply Don't worry about it. It's just the guy from the Yukon. "cant take the heat".

i remember one bay down east of the club house if i remember correctly, trees all around it and in a hole. it felt like walking into a sauna.

I would imagine that once a website is up you will hear about it on here pretty quick. i would hope it would be up before the end of the month.

An outdoor sauna, nice. Really looking forward to this trip. First time for me to see even a little bit of Ontario.

Oh and Flinter, your right. I can rent a car for a week from Ottawa for almost half the price of a plane ticket to Kingston.

Ottawa or Toronto is about an hour and a half away. the difference between flying into them and flying into Kingston paid for the rental vehicle (which you need anyways) so it was worth it. unfortunately neither airport is gun friendly surprise surprise.

West jet in Calgary is always good. half the time i have to explain to the girls what form they have to use what they can and can't ask and that i have to go to special handling when it is all over (most of them are willing to just check me through.) Hell even Calgary's finest weren't bad the day the AC girl jumped the country to go running into the office to call them, LOL. Of course the security people seem to have all been recruited from ontario. the one girl couldn't understand that (s) mean more then one.

Had a pretty good experience at Kitchener... nobody really gave the guns much thought and they didn't even weigh or ask about the ammo

flew through west jet as well

Whitehorse is really good. Never had to weigh ammo yet, and i have only had one issue in Vancouver with a security guy. Wanted me to open my case, then he wanted to see it, gun out in the open all he could say was put it away!put it away!. Whatever.
West Jet has been really good to deal with down south so far.

Most Canadian airport we have been were good to us, the worst so far is Vancouver, on the way out from the 2007 nats security(special handling) swab our Open gun's yes all 4 of them, and of course they fail the test then I had to talk to the supervisor and explain that yes they used powder and yes if you swab guns that have been used they will fail!

How stupid is that, I believe Ottawa is closer to Kingston that is were I will arriving and they have been good to me flown a bunch into and out of there with pistols.

Closer...way less traffic...and the Ottawa airport is actually not that bad regarding firearms...

It's not Calgary...but it's not Toronto either ;)

Chuckle

I think Team BC might not think that after the last time.

i did have to laugh leaving Ottawa, the $10 an hour security guard try to say i couldn't travel with reloads and he said hey there is the DG man i will get him over here to confirm that, so he calls him over. the DG listens to him, gives him a look and says whats the difference! of course they can and walks off. it was worse the PIA for that show.
