Ipsc shotgun under attack?

Storm, can you elaborate on issues you have with that? To me it mostly look as an attempt to even the competitor's chances, since shotgun equipment varies much more comparing to rifle and handgun.

I think he is refering to comments about shotgun shooters looking like they are wearing "suicide bomber vests"

So we should all use break action 12 ga single shoters?

I mean that would make it all nice and even would it not?

OPEN should mean OPEN as in OPEN.......

(note I do not even shoot open, I shoot STD Manual but this is a matter of principle).

As to the suicide bomber comment.........at first it just made me shake my head and laugh.

Then.....noting who said it and the un-natural power said individual seems to wield within the sport I thought different and now see the threat that IPSC shotgun and IPSC in general is under from within our own ranks.

There is a push to PCify IPSC to make it unrecognizable when viewed from its roots.

and to add if your thoughts "support" this move then by all means make it known as well.

Email Rach and Sean...................INUNDATE THEM!.

A well thought out opinion...based on your extensive experience with IPSC Shotgun eh

Sign into the GV from the link above and you can get a pretty good idea of what the responses from IPSC are...

Quig, I don't need any experience with IPSC Shotgun to look at the large match results when someone runs Saiga with high cap box magazine it is not even an advantage - it is an execution. I always looked at reload as an essential part of the competition, but that part is practically eliminated with boxed-mag shortguns. But I do understand that there is no easy solution and there are other reasons for proposed rule changes.

BTW, speaking of a break action... Is there many people who could do 2 reloads and 4 shots in 4.26 seconds with a side by side shotgun? http://www.jspublications.net/vids/4-26SxS.wmv

There are no other reasons...Open is Open.

I do find it rather disconcerting that two of the major decision makers for IPSC are from regions that have lost most of their gun rights.

There's a reason they only have Shotguns...and Airsoft.

True words..

We are talking about a state of mind.
Some people have surrendered to the evil hordes.

Others and I like to include my self amongst them are still fighting "the good fight". I just wish it was not becoming a two front war.

The antis infront............our "peers" behind.

I was also curious if the President of IPSC who I understand lives in the GTA area has ever been to a local SG match?
I know that he has not been to an EESA event of any sort in the past 9 years at least since I have been MD of every match over that time period.
Odd since we are one of the only clubs that host IPSC rules SG matches.

This started a long time ago, now we've lost so much that made IPSC what it was. How long until this is an Airsoft only organization?

Phfft.. That is a wrong headed look at things... Airsoft is probably the widest gateway into firearm ownership I have seen.

I personally know about a dozen people myself included and my wife who have transitioned or are doing so from Airsoft "play" to firearm ownership and participation in Shooting Sports..

I'm 44 and ex-CF ... although the typical demographic for Airsoft is young males it is not the only demographic by far. Frankly the Pro-Firearm community should do less time looking down their nose at the Airsoft community and spend more time recruiting within that community.

It is a VERY small leap from airsoft to firearm .. these people are already "gunnutz" It's just a matter of opening the door.

I personally have no problem with airsoft, but you may have missed the point. IPSC was specifically based on using a full power firearm for use in scenarios that simulated defensive shooting. The challenge is to shoot a real gun with real recoil under demanding circumstances. We've lost the scenarios, the targets representing the intended purpose of the challenge, and now they have introduced fake guns. Remember when they said the "classic" target was not meant to replace the "metric" target, it was an "alternative" target, and now it has.....

Understood.

I think that people who are interested in Shooting sports should be thankful for IPSC being the largest and most well known of the sports.. It takes the brunt of the pressure from the ANTI crowd to change... and it has changed. These changes have resulted in the spawning of a number of other organizations that cleave closer to the original vision of IPSC.
These other organizations remain mostly unknown outside of shooting sports circles.

Let IPSC bear the brunt of the anti Lobby.. and bend under their weight.. while other sports remain untouched.
