Is 45 the most accurate pistol caliber?

Yes, the .45 ACP is VERY accurate. It's wind bucking performance and massive 230 grain hard ball slugs in a 1911 platform with amazing trigger and 5" NM barrel all contribute to accuracy & power ;)

I shoot my Beretta M9 & Colt 1991 Govt .45 every range session, and my Colt 1911 is double as accurate. Even 50-100 yards centre mass hits are very consistent. VERY consistent. Those super light, super fast 9mm are easily effected by changes in grip/hold, trigger manipulation and strong cross winds (at 50-100 yards)

I pick 230 grain FMJ …45 ACP all day long.

Check out UNDERWOOD .45 Auto +P 230 gr. GDHP running at 1,000 fps factory loaded....WOW. I would love to use this load in the MARK 23 with its long sight radius and 6" match grade barrel, and I would guarantee solid centre mass hits at 100 yards, easily. I would even get hits at 200 yards bench rest, using +P 200 grain GDHP @ 1,050 fps.

How fun that range session would be :)

I have much respect for the fine old 45 ACP.

The biggest problem I see here in this thread, is that there are just too many variables amongst differing cartridges/shooting platforms/ammunition/shooter skill/distances,
to make a fair comparison.

my 2 bits only

I like 45acp so much that I doubled up on the calibre....

At least one should be on paper!

My Valtro .45 is a tack driver. Probably would have been just as accurate in 9mm had one been made.

The problem with these comments about the 45ACP is that very few people can actually shoot as accurately as their gun so their accuracy is actually determined by the shooter not the cartridge. I love the 45 at combat ranges and I find my 1911 one of the most accurate guns I shoot but it is not nor can it ever be as ballistically efficient as a 9mm or 7.62 pistol round. My most accurate handgun is a 9mm 6" barrel Pardini which can put the bullet in the same hole at 15yards, but I can't. A 45-70 is a good 1000yrd metal plate gun but I don't think anyone would say that it is more accurate than a 338 Lapua sniper rifle. As I have said before Jerry Miculek made a 1000yard shot with a 9mm S and W revolver. I just can't see anyone doing that with a 45ACP. The time of flight alone would make it a very random thing. Now I know the 45 is a love hate thing, and I personally love it, but it is what it is, a great, easy to shoot accurately, combat handgun, not an uber accurate super long range handgun.

I can't wait to find our how accurate I can make loads for my sig in 45 acp. Just about to get membership at a club, then I think the policy is 6 months before you can shoot pistol on your own.. nothing seems longer or farther away than that number for me right at this moment.
Except dealing with an idiot boss, an incompetent, lazy, stupid and idiot coworker for the next 25 years, perhaps lol.

Huh? You need to get that "Policy" changed.

Uhm, the fine 32 S&W cartridge yes. Myself, I have yet to see, or hear of anyone using any kind of 25 ACP in any Bullseye/Olympic shooting event.

If anyone has heard otherwise, please correct my assupmtion.

Minimum legal caliber for ISSF competition is ".30" and max is ".38". There is no centrefire competition at the Olympics.
