Is building ar 15 feasible in canada?

Hello

I have long wanted to build an ar 15 but it seems to my -very- unobservant self that parts seem to be scarce and limited in Canada..where should I look for a wide selection of ar 15 parts?
 
You know putting an add want to buy ar parts kit ar stripped lower ar stripped upper, bcg, charging handle. Stuff like that is going for Insane-oh low prices. You could build one easy I'm sure just from the EE
 
Lots of parts available. Eagle hunting supply, Saskatoon gun works, on the EE here. I bought everything I needed for a build in a matter of 2 weeks. Not bc I couldn't but bc I couldn't decide on a few things. Only one part I'll have to wait for
 
One of the more nifty features of the AR15 platform is that every single part can be acquired from somewhere else. The biggest problem comes down to whether the $200 version of part "a" is any better/cooler/genital enhancing than the $25 version. Which is part of the fun and one of the reasons that so much used stuff is available.

Does a $6000 gun shoot any better than a $600 gun? Depends on the person using it just like golf clubs, tennis racquets or running shoes. The difference being that you can easily change any single feature of an AR to suit your wants at any time your budget allows.

And that these changes can be done by anyone with basic mechanical skills and simple tools instead of waiting and paying for a skilled gunsmith.

Between canadian tactical cowboy supplies and red deer shooting center, you can pretty much get your hands on anything these days.
 
The only type of AR that can be a pain to get parts for right now is the light/ultra light type. It's hard to find thin profile barrels and lightweight lower/upper sets. Beyond that, no real issues getting good quality gear.
 
I've "built" 5 different AR's in the past 2 yrs. Assembled is more correct really when it comes to AR's.

Bought/sourced parts from various CDN companies as well as a boatload of stuff off of the exchange.
I didn't even bother trying to order/buy from the US...even if it appears possible.
A...just looking for grief and B....SUPPORT CDN firearms companies that miraculously conduct business in this country...especially in AR and other evil stuff :)

Be aware that you may not necessarily either build a better or less expensive rifle compared to buying one complete. You may also experience some parts compatibility issues...usually nothing serious but there can be some issues.
What you will experience is a learning curve on the AR that you would otherwise not gain...how it works/ass/disassembly/potential and actual failure and malfunction areas...the experience of putting together your own version of what you want your AR to be...and FUN...its like adult gunlover lego!! :)

Oh and I might add that my bone stock Norc AR runs and shoots as well as rifles costing 10x as much.... just sayin.
There are areas where some high quality components do perform better.....a good quality plated BCG makes cleaning life easier and the rifle run smoother/more reliably when dirty or running long strings of shooting. A lot of the other components will make lil to no difference...aside from cool factor and durability.
Be realistic about what yer going to do with it.....

And further ..just do it....buying/building/shooting AR's is tantamount to a voodoo doll for liberal's :)
 
If you're not picky on what specific parts you want, you can definitely do it fairly quickly on the EE. I'm collecting parts for a build right now, and I know exactly what I want so that makes it a lot harder. I've been scouting the EE religiously for weeks and only have a handful of the parts I need. It seems like the hardest key part to find on the EE is your BCG. They seem to move quick and at high prices.

I get that you're joking, but please stfu. I'm liberal and I'm building an AR so... :p
 
I've built all 3 of the AR's I owned over the years from parts kits from the ground up complete.
You save a lot of money if you spend enough time finding good deals/EE deals and you end up with the exact AR you want. Plus the satisfaction and experience gained from doing it is immeasurable as far as value goes.
Just find a buddy who has the receiver vice block and the barrel nut wrench and you're good to go!
 
I'm currently building an AR and the last two parts I need are the BCG and the lower receiver. In Ontario, is it necessary for me to be a member of a club to buy a stripped lower?

Not necessarily.
Even the stripped lower with no parts in it is considered the "firearm". It's the only piece you need a licence for actually. You can legally own/possess/purchase every single other part of an AR15 without even having a PAL technically ASIDE from the stripped lower.
They ask you if you are a member of a club when call in to complete the transfer if you purchase one. Just say "no not at the moment I am planning on joining a club in the near future. Work is busy right now blah blah blah"
I have never been refused a transfer of a restricted when I wasn't a member of a club in Ontario.

And agreed.
Except for I keep trying to find my AR15 unicorn in Canada: a 20" pencil barrel with gas block pin holes with a 1:9 twist :(
The only one I ever saw was on the older DA556 chinese clones.
I've even debated paying the $600 for one just to take the barrel off and put it on my M16A1 clone :(
Then I look on the US sites and they are giving them away (DPMS etc) for under $160 US.....fack I hate the market in this country.
