is casting lead bullet illegal to do in ur own backyard?

I have welfare bum neighbors that sit on their deck all day smoking pot and screaming at their kids. Any time I do anything in my yard they're glaring at me.

Finally I said screw it. I pulled the muffler off of my lawnmower and head out to spoil their day whenever I feel the need.

The plus side is my lawn looks pretty good all the time now! ;)

You're not really "smelting" by the looks of it, but just melting down already rendered lead. If the ingots were fluxed when you made them, the need to flux again is greatly reduced. You can cast "smokelessly" (even indoors) if you use a flux called "Marvellux". Its problem is that it is more expensive than beeswax, and more difficult to find.

+1

Marvelux is great. I got some from Brownells and don't plan on going back to other fluxing methods.

This container of Marvelux will last me for years too.

so if a cop shows up, tell them the only thing you've smelled all day is the burning weed coming from the other side of the fence.

How about, "We're Amish and we make our own soap". The religious angle is a show stopper for PC "rightbrains", never mind the police, they struggle not to be seen as bigoted under any circumstances. The wife and I were advised to use this tack to get our kids out of the public school system years ago. It worked like a charm.

Alternatively, you could be nice about it and offer to make her a big wax dildo ;) .

As a city dweller, I try to minimize the stink caused by my "smelting" activities and I typically "smelt" in the evening when the weather's poor (e.g. it's raining). That way, windows are closed and few people are outside. That common-sense and respectful approach has resulted in zero conflicts and has not diminished my "rights" one iota. I'm the same way with noise, and funny thing is that the gesture is returned by my neighbours. The best way to deal with conflict is to avoid it if possible.

thank you guys for the quick reply..I was going to make some 45-70 for my marlin gbl, it is already a clean led bars, I know they are nosy that is why I made this hood complete covers and with filter, so they would not able to see what i been doing ..my mistake was I throw in a pinch of bee wax and it smoke a little and ignited it..a little smelly but not that bad............my bad.. i forgot to mentioned the end part of that duct is besides there kitchen window hehehehe jk :)

Ya, you are bad:p but obviously these people don't know that beeswax makes the finest candles. Not a bad smell at all. Perhaps church is not in their experience either. The hood is great! The unlit vapours tho are IMHO, worse then the quick blaze when it burns off.

Good luck,

build a taller fence ?

light lots of insence ?

take up ritual chanting ?

OHhhh the smell of what must certainly be drugs coupled with the chanting should bestow lots of confidence in all the neighbors nearby....lol, even if they're smokers them selves

"What u doing over dare? Huh?"
"All these interruptions, hmm, tweak,(scratches head and neck) can't make a good, hmm, tweak, bullet with all this hmm NOISE!"

Or you could just go to the hardware store and buy some BORAX. That is what marvellux is. It is what soldering flux was made from for years before paste flux came along to make it simple. Still what I use to flux silver solder and damascus.
Should be in the cleaning isle next to the TSP and the Lye. About $6.00/kg

I cast bullets in the opening of my driveway in the front, and lots of folks see me and stop by to see what I'm doing. This is in suburban Ottawa in one of the few tourist areas we have in this city. When my nieghbour to the left of me came over and found out, he left and returned with a 10 pound pig of Linotype he had in his garage. 2 weeks later, he gave me over 100 pounds from his friend. I kid you not. I'm expecting another couple 100 pounds of Linotype from him within the next month.

People at work who have found out about my hobby have actually made me carry large unusual shaped lead objects they've donated to my car out in the parking lot. Life is good! :)

If asked I would just tell them that I am minding my own business.. Leaving the suggestion that maybe she should mind hers..I cast on table outside my workshop door. I have a workshop.. a lathe, a welder etc... no one has questioned anything. I can't imagine that there is a bylaw anywhere, unless your fire is not contained. Thank god she is not my neighbor.

My casting is done in the garage with the big door and the man door open. Many people walk on the street and stop and ask. When I tell them I am making bullets the answer is cool!

One old bity had a shocked look on her face walking by and said "that's dangerous". My answer was "That's what makes it fun" followed by a semi evil laugh. She has never bothered or spoke to me since.

This is the same nut job that walked by my home when I first moved in while I was trimming trees with a chain saw covering her ears and saying "noisey" as she walked by. There is always one in every area.

- Remember ten years or so back when it was suggested we all upgrade our ventian blinds because the PRC-made one had lead in the plastic? You could always say you are repairing your old venetian blinds!! Or casting old-style lead soldiers.

-Nice fume hood! Reminds me of a pleasant time in Suffield, my gloved hands under the fume hood window, watching the nerve agent turn the detector paper green!

Some people have all the luck. :p

EDIT: If you, for some strange reason, decide you want to get rid of some of the lead, I can help you *ahem* dispose of it. :p

I am in Ottawa also and I have smelted in the back yard of a townhome community without any problems. The last time I decided to smelt down some stick on wheel weights; BAD idea for all the smoke that came of of them (they were for a buddy for dive weights).

I am of the opinion to live and let live as long as you are not damaging your neighbours' property. Is hse wants to be a b**ch, I would inform the cops about the weed.

some of you guys are lucky to have a good neighbors, mine is certified b...h alright coz I talked to her neighbor on the other side yesterday and told me that she called authority on him coz she saw him bringing the barbecue grill inside his house for the winter..I do not usually mind them, they drink everyday smoke weed everyday, I don't care! it is not my business they even put there Gazebo one foot hanging inside my fence not even asking permission from me, it's been there for about 3 years now, I just let it go, but yesterday I told them better take it off my property or I will cut it with a chain saw..she just smirk on me, what a f..ng b...h!

my plan now is annoyed them to death by cooking smelly food outside, like evil smelly dried fish and squid, will see :)

I'll keep you guys posted

If you shoot with or know any cops, have them come over on a nice afternoon in street clothes and bust or report the pot smokers next door because the smell was noticeable in your backyard.

My BBQ would be pulled up under the edge of that thing so fast it would make your head spin.....and there would be more hamburger patties falling through the grill and burning than ever made it back in the house.
