Does anyone know if Ellwood Epps is closed (or on vacation)?
Emails are unanswered and I phoned, got put through to voicemail box that is FULL.

I was just there last night and seen a sign about them being closed sometime this weekend (I think) until 10AM due to hydro 1 planned outage. Maybe it was today and took a little longer?? Other than that I can't imagine them not being open.

Thanks for the replies.

If it was a Hydro outage the phone wouldn't have rung several rings and then gone to voice-mail with the message that the box was full.
If power was DOWN, the phone call would have immediately gone to voice-mailbox.

If you have no water and the store is closed then the phone will ring and ring cuz nobody is there to answer. Thus a full answering service.

They are open.

Planned power interuption on Sept 9.

They are extremely busy on and around long weekends, an unimaginable amount of traffic passes thier front door on highway 11. So many people stop by on thier way "up North" that sometimes you can barely move in the store.

I avoid it at all costs at such times.

Never had a phone here that needed power to ring, oh well learn something new everyday.

You are absolutely right.
Unfortunately at work we have been with VOIP for a few years now
(and have a couple of cellphones for emergencies: Internet or Power down.)
At home, my phone is also on the Rogers cable network. If "they" go down, I'm down, but I also have a backup cellphone.

Exactly why I don't have digital phone. If the power (or internet) are out, I can still use my phone. Never seen one that did'nt work when the power was out.

"regular" phones only work for about 24 hours of a major power failure, unless you are in a large urban centre, or densely populated area. That is because the smaller switches rely on batteries, not generators.

As far as voice mailboxes, they can physically be located anywhere in the world. With VOIP phones, a company doesn't necessarily have their servers located at the business address. Most of the time it is in the VOIP datacentre. Voicemail does not equal answering machine...

Traffic on a holiday weekend? OMG run away, except you CAN'T because it is bumper to bumper for 100 MILES !!!!

The old conventional land lines work during a power outage, However, this being the modern age most phones are cordless which have a base station that is plugged into AC. No power= No phone. That aside, you don't want to be there on a long weekend. People will be lined right up the downstairs ramp into the main part of the store. They will be overrun. Good luck getting someone on the blower.

Yes, that too (cordless with a powered base.)
We also have one of these in the office (in case Internet goes DOWN
but not POWER.)

I guess I'll have to try phoning them during the weekday.
(I do wish they would have, at the very least, acknowledged my emails (sent during the week), but I understand about being swamped.)

I, of course, blame ALL the Loooooooong-gun Hunters seeing as I'm ONLY a target practice shooter.
:p:p:pcou::cheers:

I can still use my digital phone when the power is out....the telephony modem/router that rogers provides has battery backup.

Talked to them a couple weeks ago, and they told me it takes all day to just go through the emails since closing the previous night. Call during the week.

I have a phone in the basement and one in the garage to use when the power is out. :)

.

I have a phone in the basement and one in the garage to use when the power is out. :)

Reminds me of what happened years (and years ago).
I was down in the garage where I had a woodworking workshop (just a hobby) and my then 13 year old son answered a call for me.
He said, (innocently, I'm sure), "Oh! He's downstairs in his workshop, banging and screwing."

We answer anywhere from 45-70 E-mails PER DAY, in addition to the endless telephone calls we receive each and every hour. Some days when we open, our voice mail system is already full after being cleared the night before! Between walk-in customers, phone calls and E-mails, we are often hard pressed to stay above water with the volume of sales that we deal with on a regular basis. We do ask for your understanding during this very busy time of the year. We endeavour to answer all E-mails within 24-48 hours as we are able, and we do take as many phone calls as we are able between handling our in-store clientelle.

Please keep a watchful eye on our website, as we do post our hours there, as well as notifications for any special closures or reduced hours due to holidays or unexpected issues such as the upcoming scheduled power outage by Hydro One.

Call answer happens at the switch so a power outage at the store doesn't affect the switch... If they have a conventional land line it would even ring..
