Is it a real Browning HP or a clone?

I remember the FEGs in the gunshops decades ago. A genuine Browning High Power 9mm was as good as it got for high capacity handguns. Even the Inglis HPs looked rough compared to the Brownings. So, they always held their value and appreciated. That cachet has fallen off in the past 20-25 yrs with more high capacity competition. The Glocks especially took the wind out of Browning's sails.

Pre demise of the Iron Curtain, FEGs were sold as cheaper 9mm handguns. Nothing wrong with them, just less expensive. Think Zenit cameras, Belarus tractors, Lada cars, etc. Would I put one in my shooting hand and rattle off a few mags? Absolutely. IMHO, it is a safe and reliable tilt-barrel design. There are other more probable ways to get killed than shooting that particular handgun.

once i changed out the extractor and springs the feg shot really well.
before that i was having FTE's.

very accurate gun.

OP nice pics/collection.

i could have bought some inglis hipowers years ago when they were plentiful but alas i didn't.

Learned a lot from this thread after owning 3 hi powers currently. Haven’t had an FEG since 2015. Would like to get another now thanks to you guys lol.

I also learned, thanks to HITZY: where to look for a barrel proof mark on a FÉG : Not on top of barrel, but on it's tilt-lug. So I withdraw my question mark on safety.

By the way "rcce", Herstal in a town along the Meuse in Belgium, just North of Liège. Same place.

Remaining issue, Jimmy, is :tell it like it is. I did not pay the same price for my Norinco NZ-85 (489.16$ to my door, six months ago, NIB from Marstar) as I did for a CZ-75B, 726$ six years ago, used. I realize this is all hapening between my ears, a matter of perception. And like the FÉG, the Norinco is a decently made piece. Hungarian workmanship is nicer, but Chinese don't mimic the CZ label on their slides. Wonder if they paid the royalty, though...

And CZ groups better, though. But that's just a coïcidence... :)

Go ahead, call me a purist.

Not sure if there are still any around, but there were a lot of Israeli Surplus BHP's on the market in the last year, MK2 & MK3, varied from G-VG, $500-$600, some refinished in ceracote for $700.

That is where I got mine, I can post pics tomorrow, supposed to be a Mark II , slide has no serial number, left side says Browning arms company Morgan.Utah & Montreal P.Q. Right side Made In Belgium and under that Assembled in Portugal. Pineapple and few other markings on firing pin block!
S/N 245PN56_ _ _ same on barrel with pineapple and markings on top right side of trigger guard! Wood grips!
Does anyone know where I can find more info on this one? Year etc?

245=9mm
P=8
N=9

That's a 1989 manufactured pistol.

I think I'm going to start a post on this strange habbit of blurring, or "---"-ing, or "###"-ing serial numbers. Why ? I talked to 3 cops (Montreal municipal, Provincial (SQ) and RCMP): With their years of on the terrain and investigation experience, they could not cite ONE ! case where a crime (theft, impersonation...) had been commited involving the "capture" of someone else's firearm s/n.

Educate me...

Awesome, Thankyou! Is it common for the slide to not have a serial number?

I just checked (my 26 samples): Up to s/n 21706 (my most beautiful 1961 MK 1 Hi-Gloss Blue) they have it. Wait ! : my T133765 (1964) also has it. So I would say Herstal, FN, Liège, or whatch-U-may-call-it dropped the practice in the mid-60s.

Send me your e-mail, I will send my serial number list I was proposing last might (Sheesh ! no one asked yet!).

PM ME PERSONALLY, not on this post thread, less everyone will now your e-mail address (I almost did this error)
