We've had a gopher drough in my area (Southwest Saskatchewan) for many years. I miss the summers when when we use to shot them by the 1000s.
Ya don't say, how about that Buffalo drought ;p

I'm not a 10/22 fan, but if it's OK to shoot something like CCI MiniMags...I don't think many will survive a a direct hit from one of those. lol I use CCI Blazer solids I run through a Waltz die to really open them up. They really open GOPHERS up as a result. Inexpensive 22 as well, but a bit of a chore to put gopher-quantities of them through that die.
That's a critter I wish we had out east for shooting, looks like a ton of fun.
We used to shoot gophers on the Wainwright range with FN-FAL, 308. Running, running, running, mist! Just had to make sure the barrel didn't wander too far from the paper target or the Sergeant's boot would find your ass!
It looks like it is because it is. Never gets old no matter how many years you do it.
These days I find it hard to pick up one of my .22's for gophers, my .17hmr is just way too much fun, and this year a built .223 will be joining in, the .22 well it's reserved for when I have to shoot close to horses at the one farm I clean up gophers for.
There haven't been big numbers of gophers here for a while so I just shoot my 204 mostly. Also my 22-250 and 223. I reload for all and at the price of 22lr these days I'm not spending all that much more.
With the price of .22LR? 7 cents a round is close to the same price as your .223? Please enlighten me on where to get .223 for even 25 cents a round.
CCI 0064 quick shock FTW... they chamber into a match chamber where a Stinger will not, and the results are just as impressive wot?
Found a box of Segmented HP's to try out. thx

Standard velocity or the 1640 FPS rated high velocity ones?
The high velocity ones are the way to go... Even a glancing shot drops them flat... No twitching.
I have never been gopher hunting. Something on my bucket list. Target rich, feedback from every shot. Takes me back to infantry squad days. ####, said too much...
Not "hunting". It's shooting!. Just kidding you! Typical conversation between two Sask good old boys - "Hey Joe, what you up to these days?" "Well, Fred and I were over near Mankota for a couple of days shootin' gophers."
Nothing better than a good gopher shoot. A few years back, I found a little field in Manitoba that took two days of shooting to get it tamed down. I used a 12 ga. in that field as well as a .22.![]()
12's are messy. Gophers in BC are a little too cagey to use it.
