Is it Unlawful to carry a firearm for self defence in the woods in B.C.?

You may carry a non restricted firearm, for protection, while in the woods, in BC.
There are exceptions, such as provincial parks etc.
Also check hunting regs for magazine capacities and projectiles. It likely won't apply to you but you don't know that until you know.

C'mon man - tak a look at the ground. Bear scat possible issue albeit unlikely. Get a migratory game permit in legal areas if you are dying to cart a shotgun around. I fust hiked three days and took no spray or otherwise. No scat - not even deer. Both sets of Belgium tourists I met had bearspray in pouches ready for a quick draw lol.

There is no requirement for a HL or migratory bird permit to carry a shotgun or any other non restricted firearm for self defense in BC

Only a PAL

Your limited to two rounds in the magazine or tube if using buckshot or birdshot. You can take the plug out if your using slugs and then only limited if your using a semi auto because of federal magazine limit laws.

NO. If you are hunting migratory game birds with a shotgun, you are permitted a maximum of 2 in the magazine, and one in the chamber. If you're not hunting (ie. Plinking, self defense, etc.) you can have as many of whatever kind you want in your shotgun, unless it's a semi-auto. Then you can have 5 (or however many 2.75" will fit in your 3.5" magazine pinned to 5.)

Hunting any birds, migratory or otherwise means two in the tube, and one in the chamber if you wish. It's not just migratory birds that applies to, it includes grouse as well. The only other restriction is the non-toxic shot requirement and that is specifically and only for migratory game birds (not grouse).

Actually, when hunting ANYTHING with a shotgun using SHOT (ie not slugs) you are restricted to 2+1. Deer, bear, grouse, rabbits, ducks....

When hunting using a shotgun with SLUGS you may have however many is legal by Federal gun law

When using a shotgun for defense, the hunting regulations do not apply. SO fill it up with buckshot if you want.

Yes, that's correct and a much better response, covers it all quite nicely.

Question not about hunting but hiking in the wood. As far I understand from the discussion I am allowed to have NR firearm with me while on the hike (not in provincial parks)
BTW, I have question, how they make animals not atack people in provincial parks?

It is one of the stipulations of the park pass when the animal buys it to enter the park.
