Is owning a .444 Marlin and a .45-70 Guide gun redundant??

no problem with a 444 and a 45-70....I can't say much...I have two 45-70's...

the 444 shoots a bit flatter(?) than the 45-70...but that's won't show up in the field...the only really ugly 444 is the original '64 version with the 24" tube and Monte Carlo stock......that style of butt stock on a lever gun is worse than that style of buttstock on the Browning B78............FUGLY..X 2

I owned one of the early .444's.Marlin called them the ".444 Marlin Magnum" Monte carlo stock (with straight grip) and two barrel bands instead of the nose cap style. Still a very nice rifle just a little odd looking.

cheers Darryl

Forget that, get rid of the 45/70, you don't need it with the beauty of a vintage Marlin 444

You know you want it Mark, just pm me your address and I'll box that beauty up and have it in the mail right away ;) :D

I have Two 45-70 Guide guns. One stainless open sights, the second one is the blued model with a VXIII 1.5-5x20mm . I like them so I'm keeping them. Then I went out and bought a Marlin 444P and scoped it. These guns really shoot. can't see getting rid of them. My boy will own them some day. If you are not sure if you want to keep or sell? KEEP THEM!!!
I hope this helps. Tikka.

Hey Mark, That sounds like me! :D I've bought the damndest stuff whilst having a few spills. - Jeff.

With a 45-70, why would you want a lesser big bore?

...............my biggest thing after shooting the .444, is the fact that the 22" barreled gun points, and shoots alot nicer than the 18.5" barreled Guidegun. I also like the slimmer forestock on the .444 The Guidegun feels like a 2x4 at the forestock to me.
