So far the only place I know of that's selling surplus .308 is Districorp in Quebec. They just got a shipment of South African surplus in a couple weeks back. I'd have bought some but shipping is murder! Is there anyone else around with cheap .308?

William's Arms in Port Perry, Ontario has the South African.

$7.00 for 20 rounds.
$48.00 for the battle pack 140 rounds.
$400.00 for the case of 1250 rounds.

Match bullets is marked on the wooden case just like the Austrian stuff.

What the hell? I just checked their site and it still says sold out as it has for quite a while.

I just got a shipment of 7.62x39 this week from them and didn't even think to ask about the NATO stuff.

Guess I will pay shipping twice.

Well, If Distric corp still has it, I bet Comondant Bill over at Things military (in Calgary) will sell you his last create of it, more than once :D

I whole heartedly agree with you.
This is not inteneded as a hijack, however, my first rifle was a 338 Win Mag, and the only way I could afford to shoot it was by re-loadning. it allowed me to start with light loads and work up.

The initial investment really pays off in the long run, and Just a couple of thoughts as factory prices continue to rise.

Reloading makes the endless search for the best price go away.
"...cheap .308..." No such thing anymore.

Sorry but I disagree.

Reloading is a bandaid solution to the ammunition importation problem we face in Canada.

I like reloading, but I want the option of not having to do it all the time.

By all means we are able to agree to disagree, however I take exception to the "Bandaid" label you give reloading.

I will put my realoads up against your surpluss fodder any day with regards to economics, and quality.

I will conceed that if your simply concerned about volume, surpluss MAY be the way to go. However as the cost maunfucturing componets continue to increase, so will the cost of pre-assembeled amunition. And with the correct equipment, a reloader can compete on volume as well.

We have offered a solution to the inabilbity to find ammuntion, MAKE IT, and you have dismissed is as bandaid. Fine, than please do offer an alternative solution. You have identified the problem, how do you plan to fix it.

Respectfully yours

I like reloading but sometimes its just not a viable option. I can't reload 7.62x54 for what I can get surplus for. We need somebody to bring in something like wolf ammo especially for the calibers that get mutilated on extraction(ever see what a svt40 does to brass?) or where components are hard to find or expensive, like 7.62x39. I lost most of the cases I shot out of my sks because it launched them 10ft to the right (boxer primed american eagle).

Desporterizer:

Well fair enough.

I will conceed your point that where firearms,
a. particularly auto loaders, "mangle" brass, (the only really reusable protion of the fireing process for reloading purposes), or
b. throw spent brass in to the next county

reloading seems to be a futile effort.

Your SKS is a perfect example where supluss is more than adequate. SKs's are not "precision rifles" and that any surpluss ammunition (corrosive of othewise) is more than adequate foder to feed it. Further, brass catchers in these situation are cumberson, and effect ballance.

Definately some thing to consider.

However, where precision is required, brass is able to be collected and reused, and a slow deliberate rate of fire is used, I still hold that reloading in this situation is superior.

Hey I am not arguing about the quality of a reload. I have been reloading for 20 years.

But having no other option but to reload for a caliber in Canada that has lots of factory made ammo available for it just south of the border at a great price........SUCKS:runaway:

Fair enough!!

Well, then as I see it, to solve your problem some one need to have both the time, connections and resources (read money) to solve your issue.

You've complained, now, are you stepping up??
