Is the benelli m4 still "the" shotgun to get?

I've offloaded my 870 in favor of getting a nice semi. I feel like the m4 is still the pinnacle of tactical semi's but it not a world I am well versed in. Is there another semi that compares for reliability or is the shotgun world still playing catch-up 20 years later?

hatsan, deryan, fostech origin?

To answer your question simply, yes (IMO). But I don't own one so what do I know. All I can say is that I've investigated this same question for a while. And the M4 seems to be the way to go. Iraqveteran8888 on YouTube agrees...if that means anything to you.

The Stoeger M3K is a very close contender for alot less dough

...You must be kidding.

Other than price tag, there's NOTHING better about the M3K. Great shotgun, and a great entry level option for a lot less money, but LOL.

I'm also in favor of the Remington versamax. Basically a rip off of the m4's argo system.
I thought about the versamax, but with how QC at remington has gone downhill in the past 2-3 years, I'm not sure I'm ready to send money their way. I haven't heard of major issues with their shotguns, but the rifles, they've been rough lately :(

They're nice, I find my vinci pleasanter to shoot. Mine has the collapsible stock, its probably my form but I find it easy to get slapped by the stock a bit, the reg stock might be better. Mechanically an awesome unit. Have a few things to do to it yet but love the ava mount and armytek doberman light combo. Still thinking about running an RMR on it or custom tritium but so far regular sights have been ok.

I would say yes on the M4 if you are willing to spend the $. I took a chance on a Derya MK 12 for a fun gun. It actually has impressed me alot so far for $1000 with all the extras you get. Perfect fit and finsh. Zero failures of any kind after probobly 500 rounds. I pretty much trust it fully with my life. Although it won't cycle target loads even after full break in. Not saying its better than the M4 but if you want to blast off rounds for fun the MK12 is a good alternative semi and it's mag fed. I dare say I like the Derya more than any shotgun I have made in the U.S. and it's far better quality too.

So how does the Benelli M1 compare? (a used one)

Hk marked m1 arw fantastic. Just have to check the barrle lug for cracks.
My last m1 the lug cracked at around 70k rounds
It was fixed.
Then the bolt cracked are just over 80
Benelli offered me a credit on the gun towards a m2 .
Had that for many years then sold it for an M4.
Sadly this year has been tough with health issues so had to sell the M4

I have a Benelli M2 Tac and a M4, both are cool but for serious work, nothing and i repeat nothing come close to a Benelli M4.

Thanks for the info, sorry about your health. Hopefully things are improving.

Why did you mention it needs to be HK marked?

IMO the Beretta 1300 is comparable in performance though not as robust.

Well unfortunately. Does not look like it but hay that's life.

On the HK marked M1 supper 90. They were all build or police and SOF contracts.
Much like how a rem 870 police was much better then an express

AA-12 or USAS 12 > M4 lol

But comparing to things u can get in Canada, for 3 gun, an m4 is a poor choice compared to something like a versamax or a5. But on a strictly tactical basis, m4 probably is the best, unless fabarm offers something comparable? I know for sure that the fabarm pumps certainly surpass everything else on the market.
