Is the Benelli MR1 worth it?

The takedown gets easy after you do it a couple of times. It's a piston rifle and runs clean so really, how often do you have to clean it?
Not very often and yeah I beat it get easier, but its still ridiculous. Plus that mag, bolt release, safety and what to say about that shotgun barrel retention nut...
But that's just me. Its not that it's horrible, its just that its a hard sell compare to a ar15.

Actually I was looking for some info and it looks like the mr1 is not available anymore from benelli usa :s. Might be a casse like the xcr were it's almost not present in the USA due to abismal sale due to the price and selections of ar15 and only kept alive north of the border due to the restriction of the ar 15.
I have one with the solid pistol gripped stock and long barrel, I always worry about dropping it and bending the barrel. It's not really that clean, the piston cup is always discolored, the barrel in that area gets covered in caked on carbon that needs a wire brush to get clean and the barrel engraving near there is getting gas erosion. The only tricky part is getting the bolt back into the receiver.
Pretty simple, an ar you push out a pin and pull everything out, voila. That's why I think that it's ridiculous, having to remouve the barrel with a shotgun style nut.... plus the tavor, xcr, cz858, m14, mini 14 ar also all simple and fast.
Mag release location is terrible, and you have to get the knack of reassembly (there are a couple of very good youtube videos on this).

If the AR was non restricted in Canada I'd just toss my CQA into the truck. Since we have our idiotic gun laws, it's the MR-1 that gets tossed into the truck.
I have an IR laser and a Nitecore CI6 IR light on mine. It's a good "go anywhere" "do anything" kind of non restricted rifle.
The barrel was shortened and threaded by Dlask. I originally had a fancy Dlask flash hider on it but went with the cheap A2 birdcage off of my CQA since it was shorter.

Not to dig on the mini 14, but the MR1 is the much nicer rifle in terms of parts quality/magazine compatibility/sighting options/ergonomics. Time a mag change with the mini and then compare it to the MR1...you'd see that the manual of arms is more efficient. I also like the cz 858 as an inexpensive option in 5.56, but you'll need to buy aftermarket parts if you plan to mount an optical sight or use STANAG magazines.
I like my MR1 a lot, I had two of them at one point. Just don't expect it to be an AR15, it combines sporting and tactical features to make an all-around fun rifle that shoots well.

Looked into one in detail quite a while ago, but i found the price prohibitive for what it is. If they were less than $1200 new id probably pick one up. Lets not beat around the bush though, the only reason it exists here is because ARs are no joy for plinking/hunting. Which is an obvious shame.
