Is the M4 worth it?

M4 is absolutely worth it, and it is not going to be replaced any time soon. USMC has no reason to replace an existing battle proven shotgun with an extensive history of success. There is no shotgun that can outdo the purpose built M4 for what it was meant to do.

I've heard they stopped buying them and no longer issue them overseas.

And while there seems to be no immediate plans to get rid of them, they'll probably retire them in another 10 or 15 years when the remaining fleet gets too tired.

The best single upgrade that I put on my M4 Entry was the GG&G Extended Bolt Release. It is an excellent add-on item that is far, far superior to the cheap sheet-metal Bolt-Release "clips" that are held underneath the Handguard. Those won't work with the MLOK "Hayle Rail" that I have installed and am happy with....

Mine was the RX Arms 6 position recoil tube. I was inbetween settings on the factory tube and now it's perfect

Though I have only got the $450 clone, but I can tell how good of a design this shotgun is. I have shot 1500 rounds with the clone and I done extensive polishing to my m4 clone and examine the parts many times. I would get the benelli one if my clone is broken somehow. here is a list of good designs of the m4.

1. it being gas driven with a regulator, you can tune all the springs to your loads, it would cycle the lightest/heaviest of load with a simple spring change. though original spring would run everything.
2. the receiver is never under any stress, all excess recoil energy directly goes into the stock tube and into your shoulder. unlike other mag tube spring designs.
3. the gas system is a breeze to clean, basically 2 smooth bore pistol barrel, not that you need to clean it at all, piston basically scrape extra carbon off and dump it into the handguard.
4. feed system is flexible, and no way to cause a jam. unlike a lot of the hunting gun designs.
5. no plastic internal parts, yea perhaps it make the gun lighter. but you never hear m4 parts breaking.

On the clone I use a S&J hardware bolt release that doubles as a shell unloader, if you want to use it I'd suggest drill and tap 6-32 instead of 4-40. the larger screw is much stronger and fits well.

sight is a short eotech

chokes for my older Beretta fits and I want to go shoot some turkey with the m4 clone.

My favorite upgrade was the field stock. Really wanted to like the pistol grip stocks, but ended up selling them all. For me personally, the field was a game changer.

Absolutely loving it still. Probably have a few hundred shells of mixed Target, Buck and Slug. No issues.

Mods I’ve done so far… xD

Midwest Industries MLOK handguard
Vortex Crossfire Red Dot
Surefire Scout
Ferro Concepts Slingster
RX Arms QD Mount
Midwest Industries QD Mount
Esstac Velcro Side Saddle

While I do not own a Benelli M4, I did own a Canuck knock-off, which I sold to buy a Beretta 1301 Tactical.

My 2 cents: buy whatever you really want. You'll find out that settling for a cheaper gun is more expensive in the long run, as you will likely be selling whatever shotgun you settled for at a loss and eventually go for what really tickles your fancy.

What clone do you have?

Another mod you might want to consider is a benelli nova plus one tube extension, as when I did run an entry M4 I could only fit 4 in the tube. Did the mod and was able to get 5 in the tube, 1 ghost and 1 in the chamber. 7 rounds was a lot more fun shooting at the range.

I got the R4 wood furniture for my M4. Had to buy a bolt and open up the the receiver end of the buttstock to mate with the receiver. Handguards installed without any fitting..
Love the look.

Also was able to mod a R4 28” barrel to fit the M4 as well. So can use effectively as a back up hunting shotgun or skeet as someone mentioned before .

Question my man. Barrel, where did you source it and front hand guard?

The M4 Entry is the answer to my needs. The 14" Barrel length makes all the difference to handy handling.

I got the Turkneli. Runs anything, I also won't be crying if it gets scratched or a bit of patina.
Canuck?

I had some of their gear before. Certainly wasn’t the worst. Rented a Canuck operator once. Was fun for sure. Front sight post was loose but that thing probably got used and abused being a rental.

Like everyone - shy on new purchases with being a pin cushion. Hence why the operator has a use case of not going all in too. .

But in my heart the benelli is what I want.
