Is the popularity of the 308 cartridge going down??

aw hell, I'll bite..

.308 is still around, much as the .303 Brit. It ain't going anywhere. Tho'..

My next rifle's going to be a .223/5.56. It will be less expensive to shoot, and that's perhaps the only reason. ...so far...!

So how many actual hunters do not own a .308?

Once you have two or three you don't need to buy any more.

(...raises hand sheepishly)

Sadly when I when I had to choose between a S&W 686 Stainless with target sights and a straight stocked BLR Lightweight (with good, old fashioned steel; not the fancy 'aircraft grade' aluminum receivers  they have now) - I picked the 686. And regretted it ever since.

I do have a Savage 99F in .243 which is a necked down .308 case.

Went and visited "That Hunting and Fishing Store," in Richmond, Ont, today and he said the hardest thing to keep on his shelf was the .308. When he gets them in, they all go. Most popular ? Savage ! I've personally been on the lookout for a Winchester Model 70 in .308 and its difficult as well. I dont think the .308's popularity is dwindling, versatility, affordability etc, its got it all.
