Is the takedown feature of the Ruger PC Carbine a weakness?

Never measured, but I have seen it. Maybe an inch or two at 50m from what I remember? It's not a big "distance", but it's not zero. Pressure on the fore-end, like from leaning into a bag, can make a significant deviation as well.

Regardless, I'm looking forward to trying this red dot mount out tomorrow. Being barrel mounted, take-down shouldn't be an issue.

I got that exact same mount, just using a Vortex Crossfire RDS. Got it all zero'd in and seems to work great. I'm sure the POI shift is not huge with the receiver mount but I like the piece of mind of this setup. Won't work for scopes of course but for an RDS with infinite eye relief it's great.

Was worried it might take a little longer to pick up the dot with with further away but didn't seem to be a problem in practice.

It almost allows a co-witness of the iron sights as well. You lose some of the clarity but you get enough to make shots in a pinch.

Here's some 25m 3-shot and 2-shot groups with mine off a front bag only.

Well, I guess someone's gotta say it - RTFM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Proper adjustment from the start will save some trouble, especially if you set it too tight.

The ruger take down system is amazing, with a usser adjustable lock ring, there is never a reason it should get loose enough to wigle.

I never noticed a POI shift and I took my apart countless times... And i was rocking a 100m zero and shooting out to 200m.

Not to hijack the thread but who makes that barrel rail?
Thx Tom

I set up my BIL’s 10/22 takedown. Can’t get the significant wiggle out of the barrel/receiver joint. With optics mounted the poi shift fore end supported vs not at 100 is in feet. Yes, adjusted, googled others experience, gave up because it’s not my $600, thank god. Glad I played with one before buying. Will not buy.

At worst you found one with something wrong. That does happen. In the two Ruger PCCs I own and dozen more I've shot and handled none had any play that couldn't be taken out completely by simply adjusting the tension nut or whatever it's proper name is. I carry mine around in my truck so the takedown feature is most of the reason why I bought one. I bought another after seeing how well the Ruger runs and shoots! I also have a fancy takedown 10/22 that I never use. It locks up just fine but rimfire bores the hell out of me.

Put a scope on mine. OUt to 50 yards the gun groups the same every time I go out. The gun gets taken down after each range session. None issue with my rifle.

I do prefer the folding stock option that one of my carbines used to offer. I sold the gun to somebody who wanted it. Forget who.

I never thought I would have any use for this takedown option but going to my range on Wednesday and plan to take two rifles, in a single dual carbine bag. If I break down the PCC, I can fit that in my bag, so I don't have to carry two separate rifle bags. It will be interesting to see how well this holds zero after take down and reassembly. Sounds like from what others report that this won't be an issue.

I just moved my scope into another gun and replaced it with a Sparc11. I prefer the Red Dot over the scope for IDPA PCC Division but for any other application a scope.

I feel where one lives effects how useful a takedown feature is. I’ve heard that some of the earliest takedowns were for shotguns or rifles that might be packed into a suitcase to board a train to go hunting elsewhere. Similarly, anyone sharing an elevator might appreciate a more discreet package. If you’re just loading your rifle into the back of your truck from your garage, it probably isn’t as useful a function.
