Is the XD45 single action or not?

Yeah, I'd like to know too.......

Yes.

The para LDA is another interesting unit, the mainspring is precocked by the slide travel, but the hammer is lifted and released by the trigger. I don't think you get a restrike capability there either, but i don't own one, anybody?

the S&W 5946 that the RCMP use doesn't have a second strike ability either, so does that mean it's not a DAO gun?
a gun doesn't need to have a restrike capability to be DAO...Glock is DAO and it doesn't have that capability either...

DAO is used for some police departments. Does SA make a DIFFERENT models that are DAO?

The confusion is all around the marketing of the trigger system to who ever they can.. a lot of police departments in the use have a "DAO" and won't even look at anything else (So calling an XD SA won't get them in the door) .. so SA says.. In theory our SA is safer then the DAO on a glock, and from a finger to trigger perspective is the same.. so let's call it DAO, so that it can be looked at by different police departments.

(Hypothetical situation)
If some department had a "must have fixed entry device on pistol" rule, then some marketing guy would say. "Hey.. you can use the barrel to pry open the door, so the XD now has a "fixed entry device" built in"..

It's all marketing fluff to sell as many XD's as they can

No, you don't get a restrike with the LDA either; it requires the slide to cycle and reset the trigger for each shot.
