I have a hole in my gun safe where a .40cal pistol should be. I've owned many, but don't own one now. These included:-
-G35
-Vertec
-P226
-XD40
and one or two others that I can't recall.

Let's hear from you .40 cal owners that are convinced that your .40cal pistol is THE ONE....and why. No "get a Glock/Sig/CZ/USP etc" one-liners or "+1"s please.:)

I'm leaning towards either a G22 or another XD40.

Oddly enough thats the one calibre I really dont like..

Make it 9mm, 10mm or .45acp.

I dont get the fascination with .40. Each to his own I suppose.

don't own any .40's...

but looks like you already had 2 best once; 96FS and P226 ;)

...if you want something new how about Steyr M40-A1 or M&P 40?

Until I took my CCW course I didn't have a use for a 40S&W either...

Due to having a ATC the smallest round that I went too was the 10mm.

I have just purchased a Glock 23 40S&W to be used as my CCW handgun.

I went with the 40 over a 9mm because with already loading for the 10mm other than buying some brass I have everything I need to load for it.

Obviously I did a lot of thinking and trying out of different handguns and decided to stay with a make that I am already totally familiar with.

It may not be as pretty as some of the other guns available but I know that it will work every time I squeeze the trigger.

Browning Hi-Power MkIII...

'Nuff said?

'Course the G22 is a great choice... the one I've been shooting for several years has seen thousands of rounds without one hic-cup. ;)

I have a High Power in 40, shoot's nice and has a fully supported chamber, but the recoil pulse has beaten the ####s out of my sights (as in sendign them flying in the air), my current setup works great, but I still shoot better and faster with my 9mm.

My first handgun was a Sig P226 in .40. I love that gun. Very accurate for a production gun, a snap to take down and clean. Too bad .40 is just that much more expensive the 9mm, especially if you don't reload. If you look hard enough you can find a good used one for a reasonable price.

All depends what you want to use for.
I love .40S&W, and shoot STI Edge, but this is very expensive pistol.
I will consider other factors before caliber, like ergonomics of the pistol.
I hate XD or Glock pistols, but CZ or SIg p226 will do the trick for me.
IMO, best overall is any 1911 clone.
