Is there a new RC K98k import?

the longer you wait to buy your chances of getting a good one diminish.iI know its been said befour but there not makeing anymore ,supply and demand dont sit on the fence act now or look back in six months and say i should have bought one.The worst synario is i have a seventy year old hunting rifle

The last time these rifles were available, they came in crates that dealers just opened and let people pick through or if they were mailing them out, you just got the luck of the draw.

So far the only dealer on this site that is cherry picking them is SFRC and they are charging accordingly.

K98 Russian Capture (1939) 237

Finally got around to cleaning up my RC I ordered from FF couple weeks back. It is a 237 "the Berlin-Lübecker Maschinenfabr
Lübeck" dated 1939, it has the bent bolt with the electro pencil number on it. For a RC the stock is in good condition as well as the majority of the parts. Minor pitting under the Trigger Guard and along the Front Barrel Band. None of the serial numbers match, however as I was cleaning it, I came across some markings I am not so familiar with. These marking are located underside of the reciever. Any info as to what the markings mean would be greatly appreacited.

Okay, I can see ssome of those being inspection marks but would some denote German refurbishing prior it becoming a RC ? Also, what about the 1939 R71. What is that denoting?

The marks on the bottom are not from German rebuild or depot repair. They were put there during manufacture at various stages by inspectors to assure quality control.

The 1939 R71 is the barrel code. 1939 being the year, R the manufacturer (most likely Ruhrstahl) and 71 would have been the lot number. Again for quality control purposes mostly.

I wonder why the companion of K98 , the war time P38 are not skyrocket in price?
In the last years the price does not change. A good reputation dealer have a hard time to sell a war time P38 RC for 599.

I think it's because there is a smaller market for the P38. RPAL is needed.

This will change as well. RC P38s are selling for $600+. An all matching P38 in VG+ condition is worth at least as much as the RC and then a bit more.

The big influx of P1 pistols really stopped the escalation of prices on wartime P38s.

As far as the cost being held back by requirements for an RPAL, I don't think that's an issue.

Collectors are diminishing in numbers. The WWII pistols just don't hold the curiosity for many younger shooters. They just want to put lots of rounds down the range with decent pistols. WWII dated P38s don't really allow for that, unless you're willing to wear one out.

I don't blame them for this but it does have an effect on the prices of these old girls.

Right now, the pricing of 4 inch barreled P08s is rediculous, considering you need a 12-6 classification to acquire one. Many sellers are still considering the nostalgic appeal of them as a selling factor.

P38s on the other hand don't have the same appealing style as the P08s and are priced accordingly.

IMHO, WWII P38s are a sleeper investment. They will soon command some very decent prices.

Much of this hinges on the economy. Not much money for toys and the price of toys acts accordingly.

Just so you know, in 1972, I picked up 12 ea P38s, all matching in VG to Exc condition, complete with correct holsters and spare mags for $700. I bought all of them from Harkley and Haywood, in Vancouver. I was able to pick through a crate of over 100 rigs and take the pistols I wanted, as long as I paid them $700 per dozen. I didn't just take the best ones by condition. I picked them for the different markings and dates.

Within a few short years, many of those variations were no longer available for any price.

International Firearms out of Montreal, sold P38s right up to the day they closed their warehouse doors and were forced out of Canada.

Well FWIW, I broke down and ordered one of the new import RC's from P&S so I could see in person what this batch looks like. Had Jean pick me a decent one (I hope) based on some basic criteria (decent bore, laminate cupped stock, and not Mauser manufacture b/c I have a few of those already) Looks as though the one I bought is a BNZ43 with, I think, a white-glue laminate stock. Hard to tell the glue color for sure with the red shellac though from the photos I saw. Will post better pics/details when it gets here.

I kinda hope it is a white glue though - despite the supposedly lower bond strength and water susceptibility, they are a lot rarer and (IMHO) more attractive.

Jean has some nice ones up there. Got one coming from Europe at the moment, and can't wait to get it. I think I will grab one just in the meantime. I sure am grateful for the dealers who take the time to accurately describe what you are getting, like Jean and SFRC.

Yeah, he's got a nice dou up now that I think was a g24(t) converted to k98k. I almost bought that one instead.

Also a Portuguese k98k rc.
