is there etiquette in hunting?

He wants your spot and is trying to piss you off so you'll leave it to him?

Possibility is that this is sorta true. He may have had that spot in mind and found you there. Came back an hour later to see if you'd moved on, for the same reason.

Down here in the ####### of Canada, its a given that if you are within a stone's throw of any path a wheel can roll on, there will be somebody there at some point while you're there. That's the good news. The bad news is that now, all places are within a stone's throw of a path on which a wheel can roll.

How in the heck is that going to 'encourage' you to leave?!?

A guy driving by ever 5 minutes might be a piss off - but a guy driving by twice? An Hour a part!?!

If anything the guy is probably an ADVANTAGE to you - He's covering any noise you might make, he's providing some cover scent - and NO deer in bc who's ever been within 100 meters of a logging road is going to be 'scared' or spooked by a vehicle put-put-putting along! They'd live in constant fear if they were :D If there's deer in the area they're going to stand still, watch it pass, and then MOVE :D - and they're all yours.

There's probably half a dozen good deer blocks that the guy is looking at along the route he's travelling besides the one you're in - so what's he supposed to do? Ignore his circuit that he's chosen just because there's a single hunter sitting there? My dad's knees are shot this year due to an operation - if I manage to get him out at all it'll be 100 percent road hunting for him, we can't even put him on a quad, he won't be walking off the road even to recover game (we'll do all that). So - what - he's supposed to ignore EVERY road that he sees another hunter on? He'd have to avoid half of bc :)

Seriously mig - you're getting 'mad' about absolutely nothing. A guy driving past 2 times is absolutely NOT hurting your chances in the slightest (in fact - after he passes that's the time to pay VERY careful attention around you) and you're crazy to expect to have the entire place to yourself if you're that close to pavement. Next time try a friendly wave and wish 'em well - the guy isn't doing you any harm.

I understand why you felt it interrupted your hunt, but trust me it really didn't.

Road hunters hunt roads. Your prime time is their prime time as well. Being a still hunter, I set up away from roads (and on private land).

Boo Hoo.. Damn people who have rights to drive where they want too... :sucks:

Maybe this guy is just out for a drive because he enjoys it. He's not nessicarily a hunter, or even an anti out there trying to f**k up your hunt. :jerkit:

And what an awful person to drive on the same road in the same direction twice in a row. :runaway:

To be fair to MIG25, I've been where he is, and it's frustrating as hell to hunt on public land. Everyone has an equal right to be there, but people have diverse (and often strange) ideas on how to hunt, with no regard for others, and you will see it all. Last time I hunted public land, there was a virtual parade of noisy buggers walking by every 15 minutes. An old coot was driving around non-stop on his four-wheeler the last hour of light. The deer must have been laughing themselves silly. Looking back it was humourous (fodder for a good cartoon), but at the time it was quite the opposite.

I finally found myself a piece of private land, and frankly would give up the sport if all I had was public land to hunt.

Deer get used to cars and traffic. Deer's knows when they are being hunted, but usually stay in their "home territory" which they know wery well. Deer will therefore go about their routine with or without hunters around. With lots of traffic and hunters, deer will move to hard to get places, therefore some carefull foot works is in its place. Soft and weet ground helps.

Do'nt give up just because few cars drive by.

the guy was being a jacka$$, i have no doubt of that. i seen him driving around yesterday morning, then a couple of hours later in between the cutblock and where i saw him , about 100 yards off another trail with tire tracks on it, i found a cow elk that someone shot and left that morning. i would consider him to be the prime suspect.

etiquette

Ever think that this guy didn't shoot the elk, but thinks you are the prime suspect 'cause he always sees you there?:D The guy has as much right as you to travel the roads etc. Funny, but i always figured etiquette was best displayed when two people repected each others personal rights, and was usually not displayed when respect for each other was absent. While you feel (through your posts) he showed no respect for you, i would say you have not shown him any respect either eg making accusations with no evidence etc.

:rolleyes: Maybe the guy was lost.

But likely:evil: was some guy out tryin' ta screw up hunting for everyone by making the ruts so deep in the road that not even the game could jump over! Ya, that's it! Bet he was driving a Ford too! Dead giveaway for them types! Was he smoking? I bet he was! Probably had a pump... no wait, an SKS! Those guys are everywhere! Just driven around..... looking for.......Rocks! Rocks to shoot. And I bet he doesn't even use all the rocks he shoots....... a durn Ford-drivin', tobacky smokin' rock poacher, the worstest kind.

Nah. He was probably lost.

:p

Maybe the guy doesn't hunt, and has no concept of being quiet while still hunting? Maybe he makes that trip every day / couple of days......all year round, and you're kinda on "his turf"???? I understand your frustration, but don't be frustrated with him. Be frustrated with yourself for picking that spot. Just bad luck. Try another spot tomorrow.

Just buy land, and then have some real problems with #######s, You gotta keep charging every last one, no matter what bull#### excuse they have. Every time one f's me, I know it's gonna cost him way more that the hunting trip he planned on. Now, i am looking at a D6 just to male life just more of a ##### for people who just go where they think they can,lol

just because we have the right to do something, does not mean that we should. i do know what i do, if i see someone hunting an area, or parked at a trailhead, i go somewhere else. if someone is fishing in a spot, i go somewhere else. if someone is taking a photo, i walk around them, not in front of them or hang back until after the photo is taken.
