is there etiquette in hunting?

just because we have the right to do something, does not mean that we should. i do know what i do, if i see someone hunting an area, or parked at a trailhead, i go somewhere else. if someone is fishing in a spot, i go somewhere else. if someone is taking a photo, i walk around them, not in front of them or hang back until after the photo is taken.

Migs, if they'd set up next to you, i might concede the point, but for gods sake man, you're hunting near a paved road and a guy drove by you. Yeash.

Just buy land, and then have some real problems with a**holes, You gotta keep charging every last one, no matter what bulls**t excuse they have. Every time one f's me, I know it's gonna cost him way more that the hunting trip he planned on. Now, i am looking at a D6 just to make life just more of a ##### for people who just go where they think they can,lol

haha D6 as in a CATERPILLAR D6? :50cal: we need a Bulldozer smilely just for this thread

To bad that guy would'nt cruise the loop tomorrow in one :D

Sorry, but you chose a spot next to a road, it's to be expected. Besides, it's not like he was driving by every few minutes...it's not that big of a deal.

cheers.

enjoy your wednesday.

There IS hunter etiquette, however, I don't think this guy did anything wrong as you were close to a mainstream spot.

Keep in mind when you're hunting (especially moose), there alot of "road warriors". Whom are content to drive around in a truck with their rifle and beer and search for that infamous "road moose".
Although a lazy tact, and obviously not concerned about going home with nothing in the back of the truck (except empty bottles of Labatt 50), for some, this is how they hunt.

BUT, the double edged sword is that it opens up more opportunity for you to hunt OFF the road, where the game is cleverly hiding!!

If you hunt near/on a road you would be a fool not to expect someone to drive by. I was moose hunting this year in a little out of the way logging road and I still saw some people driving down the road. I shot my moose about
300m off the road in a small cutblock that you couldn't see from the road.
That's why more people bag animals OFF the road.

It's really satisfying when they stop and admire the moose in the back of the truck.

I know lots of guys who hunt from their truck who always complain there's no animals left. The most effort they put into hunting is to make sure the windshield gets some Windex:D

Hunter's etiquette prohibits a hunter from making love to another hunter's wife while the man is hunting.
Everything else is fair game, including putting wolf piss next to his stand so the animals will veer to yours. :jerkit:

On a serious note, people don't think all that much when they are not the affected ones. Same problem I had with ATVs. And they don't just stick to the road. In those people's minds, they deserve to go everywhere because they invested in the equipment ..... So they upgraded from walking to driving.
Don't think for a moment that driving around looking for game - be it in a car or ATV- is hunting. More like game-getting, freezer-filling activity.
If you hunt, you're not only looking for game. It's a different sport.

If you take the time to be condescending in regards with every "permit-and-license-holder" you'll be more than happy to associate with those sharing your views. By the way you treated the problem with the truck-driving folks, I think you're ready for a more elevated type of hunting. Sometimes we need a guide in discovering the magic ... if you find that person, value them cause they are rare.... and rarer nowadays than ever.;)

Sounds like you had it lucky. Last time I was set up remotely similarly (in the deep bush, not far from a logging road. AKA nowhere near pavement & regular traffic), the truck hunter didn't even get out of his truck & had his rifle half way out the window aimed at ME.

when we hit the gatehouse, we let him know. That area had horrid problems with bad truck hunters & everyone was warned on the way in, to GET OUT OF THE TRUCK when you shoot... He wasn't allowed back in. I had NO sympathy for him.

Too lazy to get off his butt & too dumb to verify the target. NOT the best.

So as annoying as the guy was, the one you saw was pretty low key there, Mig.

Are people mental?

Even if someone was pointing a gun at me which I'm sure they weren't doing on purpose I wouldn't point one back at them, where are we in Compton or L.A.'s east side? Thats how people get killed! Another way to get killed is sitting on the side of a road in thick bush stirring branches around, we all know that true hunters know what they're shooting at but there are some that don't care either. We all like to sit back and think that everyone on the forum feels and does everything the way we do but some people have some funny idea's on other ways of doing things.

Annnd bones would be correct there. Your post was edited appropriately. Sorry to hear you ran into people that stupid, but no discussions about breaking the law pls.

you state you were driving, got out of your truck and shot a moose and in fact have pictures of the moose standing on the road. that is road hunting, no accusation needed. you come here with your jerk of and stfu emoticoms and not very clever photos and you are indignant with me, i think you are the one that needs the soother or perhaps another cup of coffee.

btw, i have never said i was on the pavement. i was perhaps 1/2 mile from a paved road with rolling hills in between. sitting off a skid trail.
