Which brands do this? I'm not being snarky, I really want to know.

I've got a few Colt Canada and Colt USA lowers, as well as a PWS lower so I'm going to check it out when I get home.
 
Checked my Colt Canada. It appears perfectly symmetrical. Measuring is a little difficult because it does taper as you move to the top of the receiver. My feeble attempts to measure were around 5.11mm and 5.12mm when trying to measure across the same spot.

I don't think the FA was available until 64, but why not try and modify the design, there's not a whole lot you can change on a lower other than cosmetics and ambi controls, If it was put there by design good for them. If not oh well, I didn't expect much from these lowers at 65$, but from what I've seen/recieved They are worth the 65$, if it was a Blem one I guess, I didn't actually see it mentioned in here rereading it.

Ahh - when I saw "stripped lower", I thought the reference was to the counterboring of the buffer tube threads...

Your point? Is it forged or billet? Brand?

As I mentioned already not all are this way but some other billet brands are. No big deal.

Its for clearance to eliminate the FA pinch point. Personally I do not like this practice but I will not slam a site sponsor and their product for choosing to fabricate this way. Once the rifle is assembled nobody would even know unless a slick side was used.

A few brands that manufacture "billet" receivers have a pronounced ring with sharp edges so the FA side is machined back to eliminate the PINCH POINT or bite that may happen when panic pushing is used.
 
Being as the tube well isn't a rounded one, more "octagonal" for lack of a better word, it makes sense to have the FA side reduced. Looking at the photos of mine, it is right inline with the FA.

Gear down big rig. I was posting as a point of reference. THAT'S MY POINT. If you read my post above the picture post, you would see I mentions "Colt Canada".

Sorry the f:P: is not for you personally as much as this concern is unwarranted for the $64 price we paid.
