Hi guys,
I don't have a digital camera so unforunately there will be no pics. I went into my loca gun store today and had only intended on buying some ammo and a bore snake but I asked to see a Rem 700 in .308 they had just got in. I don't have a good rifle and I want to start getting into presicion shooting so I have wanted to get a Rem 700 for sometime.
It had a "26 heavy barrel (blued not ss) (it weighs some 9lbs unloaded and without scope) and a very nice syn stock. It was coal colored with lighter grey fibers marbled throughout. It was chambered in .308 and thought I am ignorant when it comes to bolt action rifles I don't believe it was a short action as the bolt comes back rather far. I was told it was a Rem 700 VS that just stopped production last year or so. After inspecting the bore, crown, bolt, chamber, releasing the int mag spring and looking thoroughly at the exterior of the weapon I had to ask my local dealer whether it was even used or not. He indicated it was (that's why it was $750.00) and he had just taken it in on a trade for a similar Rem 700 LRT.
I never purchased a firearm new but I have buddies that have and this rifle was in immaculate condition. It was hard to tell it had ever been fired. So I bought it and a $250.00 Bushnell Elite 10x scope which they mounted. I am going to fire it tonight.
Was this a good deal? Is there anything I should have a gunsmith do to it, any cleaning or care tips? Thanks!
